Sofia Espinosa is a Mexican actress, and producer. She is well known for her roles in El Brassier de Emma, The Kid: Chamaco, I Miss You, Vete Más Lejos, Alicia, Gloria and most recent Apapacho. She started taking acting classes since she was 13, and she has built her career as an actress since them. We talk to Sofia about her career, her dreams, and her next steps.
I grew up in a family full of theater and music. I started taking acting classes when I was 13 years old, I had great teachers and enjoyed a lot how playful it was to act. Then I made my first movie at 15 and after that, I just wanted to keep on doing that.
As I started at a young age, I had the chance to experiment in different drama schools. I started in Mexico City in “Casa azul”; then I went to a great workshop in London that made me fall in love with Shakespeare and English theater.
After that, I studied 2 years in Buenos Aires and that opened my mind completely, I felt everything was possible. I also saw a lot of great actors perform. Actors there keep training all their lives, and I believe that to continue learning and questioning yourself is always important. There is no time to stop learning.
Every time I have the chance, I try to take workshops in Mexico or somewhere else. I really enjoy doing that.
My first movie was “The girl in the Stone”, directed by Maryse Sistach, a great Mexican filmmaker. I was 15 years old.
I don’t know. I think every project is a challenge. The theater play “After rehearsal” by Ingmar Bergman was a great adventure. And also the movies “Open Cage” and “Mist” where I participated also as a scriptwriter, were interesting challenges.
It was a great character to act. I had to sing, dance, and perform in different stages of her life. It was a great team, all the actors were wonderful, it was a good script, and the director Christian Keller was amazing. We had a lot of fun shooting the film.
I like singing. I like being on stage.
The energy that she has on stage.
I like spending time with my family, having a good meal, walking around the city and nature, and going to see something at the theater.
We recorded ”Amor Traicionado” song for the soundtrack of a movie called “El placer es Mio” directed by Elisa Miller, a good friend of mine. As I love to sing, it was fun to do it. Now I hear its part of the soundtrack of the series and I’m happy people are listening to it.
I have no idea.
I am writing my next film in collaboration with Max Zunino. And I am preparing myself to begin shooting the other 2 films I really like. I would love to work more in other countries too. Let’s hope that happens soon.
Yes, I will be releasing soon the movies “El amarre” a horror film directed by Tamae Garategy, and “Los minutos negros” a film noir directed by Mario Muñóz.
