Lindie Wilton is a South African Photographer, her passion started when she was 5 or 6 years old when her parents bought a film camera. Today she is a successful wedding photographer, and today we bring you guys her story.
My name is Lindie and I grew up in a small town called Ladysmith in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. It was there where I would either die of boredom or pick up my camera and take photos of everything and anything. I was 5 or 6 at the time when my parents had bought a nice film camera. I loved looking through the viewfinder and to compose different shots, even if there was no more film left I would still pretend to take photographs. I grew up almost always having a camera with me no matter where I went. It felt natural to me and I loved being able to make time standstill.
I guess I always knew I was going to take a lot of photos but I never thought I would be taking photographs as a career, especially not weddings. I completed school at age 18 and was torn between studying fashion or journalism when a close friend mentioned that if I don’t study photography I will never be satisfied. It’s almost 10 years later and I can honestly say that I am still never satisfied.
While I studied we had to do a couple of photojournalistic assignments and that’s where I fell in love with documenting a moment as it unfolds naturally. To me that is what happens at a wedding, you are there to document the couple’s most beloved memories on their day as it unfolds in the best way that you can.
I think of several different things when I’m creating that moment. Composition, light, scenery, expression, and emotion all play an important role. Capturing a feeling that translates uniquely into a moment and a connection between the couple.

I usually go scouting before the shoot and visualize what the scene would look like with the couple and then of course how the light will fall, as it plays an enormous part in creating an unforgettable photograph.
Butterflies hit, then comes the rush of creating unique and creative memories. Time flies.
I studied photography for four years at the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein, Free State and obtained a B.Tech Degree in Photography. I was awarded top op my class for two years running and won awards for best photographs and also exhibited some of my work across South Africa. A lot of my skills also came from self-teaching as well, by making mistakes and learning from them and trying new techniques. I feel that the best photographers have a combination of technical skill and creativity and my main goal is to achieve a perfect balance of just that in all my photographs.
I mostly use my Canon 5D mkiii DSLR and sometimes even use my iphone for more candid moments.
I have a love/hate relationship with my work. I don’t think there is a single photo that I am most proud of. One day I will love a specific photo or shoot that I took and the next I will think that I could do better.
I am happy with the path that I am taking and loving the versatility in my work from photographing fashion, portraiture, travel, and weddings.
