Today we have a nice interview with Sofia Delgado. Sofia is a fashion Illustrator from Mexico. In the afternoons she teaches classes about the world of fashion and on her free time she works on her brand Darkmoon. Sofia is a perfectionist, persevering and multifaceted. Her last collection Apocalyptic, focus on the use of recycle denim, to find more don’t miss this nice interview about her career as a fashion illustrator.

When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

I got very passionate about fashion at a young age and started to focus on fashion illustration at 14 and soon I was participating in some fashion design contests that allowed me to experience that world.

What’s it like being in the fashion industry?

It is a world that requires constant innovation, that requires reinventing yourself over and over again, it is a cycle that never stops.

What was your first job in the fashion industry?

My first project within the world of fashion began when I made a collection for the Studio Nueve.Cero collective and it helped me a lot to give visibility to my work

Talk about the changes in your life since you ‘ve your own clothing label as a Fashion Designer

The most important change is that I have in my hands the great possibility of creating without any barriers, without limiting my creativity and so I can take more risks.

How do you choose your inspiration?

Most of my inspiration comes from different times and moments in history, although I also really enjoy researching and looking for inspiration in architecture, graphic design, lights and colors.

What advice would you pass along to those starting as a Fashion illustrator?

You have to be aware that at the beginning you have to work a lot and hard until you can see the results.

Tell us about your last collection

I like to transmit feelings and tell stories, my last Collection “Apocalyptic”, focuses on the use of recycled denim, in the same way, I gave great importance to the use of utilitarian elements such as clasps, hooks, metal eyes, snaps or ribbons.

How do choose your fabrics?

I mainly seek to help me tell the stories behind my collections. I usually work with color blocks and plain fabrics.

What is the next step in your career as a Fashion Designer?

Right now, my highest priority is that the brand operates, is a business and that we have a team that thrives.
