When did you know, you wanted to be a makeup artist?

While I was attending NYU, I began to dabble in makeup, just for fun. One of my professors was a singer and was being photographed for a shoot, so naturally, she asked me to do her makeup. On the shoot, the photographer asked me to work with him one. Other projects and my career just transpired from that point forward. Never would I have thought makeup would take me as far as it has.

Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your career?

Throughout my career, I have had the amazing fortune to work with many talented people across various industries. I have taken a lot of inspiration from Tom Ford, Iman, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lopez, Herb Ritts, Francesco Scavullo, Kevin Aucoin.

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?

I started my career over 20 years ago as a makeup artist. I spent more than 10 years on both sides of the camera as a fashion correspondent, series regular, host, judged, creative director and executive producer on some of the decade’s hottest television shows, including America’s Next Top Model and Fashion Police.

How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?

My signature look is a Filtered finish illusion of the skin.  A lot of makeup and foundation products show up on women’s faces, and they want to be able to have it not look like makeup – that is a big concern.

What’s your favorite makeup product?

My favorite product would be lipstick.  I specifically designed my lipstick so it moisturizes the lips and has a fantastic color payoff. Working in the industry, the artist would have to prep the lips with a moisturizer before applying the lipstick. I wanted to simplify the process and still get great results. A lip can go a long way all day!

What does beauty mean to you?

I always say…beauty, it’s deeply personal, purely individual, and yet surprising public. The way we represent ourselves to the world should be a reflection of who we really are.

Which are the colors for this season?

My favorite colors this season are bolds for the lips such as deep oranges and rich pinks. Play with color in beauty,  as often times during the colder months we tend to dress in neutral tones. For the eyes try a mascara outside of black, a royal blue always looks good on your lashes and gives the effect that your wearing eye-shadow.

What is a no go for this season?

The best thing not to do this season is  “Crowd Source” instead “Self Source.” We are now in a time where the amount of likes on social media dictates your style and persona. Keep true to you and if you feel comfortable that is all that matters.

Which are the must make-ups every woman should have in the makeup bag?

All women should have a good concealer, mascara, blush, and lipstick.

Where do you get your inspiration?

When I was very young I would have posters of famous photography by Francesco Scavuello, Herb Ritts, and Steven Miesel their work is timeless and can be referenced any decade at any moment.
