If ever you thought art required a paintbrush, acrylic, and easel, think twice as this is food in all its artistic form. Welcome to the duo that makes eating a visual treat but also a divine pleasure. Party event planners, caterers and rated highly in the hospitality industry.

You and Charlie make a dynamic team. What does each of you bring to the "chopping board" to make this a great relationship?

Charles provides artistic flair and originality, combined with skill and experience

Laetitia provides attention to detail and care regarding quality and taste

"All in the details" is a mantra I love. However, your canapés take this to a new level. They are like miniature works of art. Please share with us the creative process and the challenges involved in various food products being in the equation when catering for events?

Everything is freshly prepared for each event and packed ready for assembly on site.  Many of our things require last-minute assembly to make sure they are interesting and retain their crispness and identity.

Do you stick to seasonal produce or do you cater to all of your client requests by providing all their wishes throughout the year?

We guide clients towards seasonal produce, however as we are catering for parties and most things can be sourced year-round, we like our clients to choose their favorite things.

Is there a growing demand for small specialist business and what are the benefits?

Clients receive a personal interest - we only take on events that we can prepare and be at ourselves.

CELESTIAL HUMAN BODIES BY TRINA MERRY

CELESTIAL HUMAN BODIES BY TRINA MERRY

Multi Media Visual Artist Trina Merry

Trina Merry is a multi media visual artist from New York, she went to film school, worked in various departments on film and tv sets and then discovered bodypaint thanks a rock cabaret show with The Dresden Dolls (Amanda Palmer, TED Talk, and Brian Vigilone, Violent Femmes) and Australian band The Red Paintings. Merry was asked to stand on stage and get body painted and cites that as a direction-shifting experience.

At the time of changing mediums, Merry was exhibiting in several West Coast and International galleries, doing up to 9 exhibitions a month.

Trina Merry has primarily explored self-identity, body image, and consumerism in her work. The majority of her work contains a living person and her work utilizes many mediums including: performance art, painting, video, sculpture and installation. She often challenges perspective and creates work from a single (subjective) perspective point creating op art illusions. Her work is ephemeral and connects to ancient historic art practices.

Today Trina bring us Astrology Series, she sculpted the bodies into a shape, painted on top of the bodies and then documented the work with photography. Taking up to nine-hours to put together, each human sculpture is made up of as many as nine models taking part in this latest bodypaint series by New York artist Trina Merry.

This work has a heartbeat and a breath, it is dynamically alive

Leo was high energy, there were fourteen people who worked on that piece

Everything started when she examined Italian Renaissance painting and sculptures. Philosophers of the renaissance believed that humans physically absorbed planetary rays and this had physical and psychological effects. Interestingly, the art works were believed to capture planetary rays and then transmit celestial radiation. Astrology was considered not only to be beautiful but also functional and was therefore a popular theme commissioned by educated European patrons.

Not too dissimilar from today, wealthy patrons felt horoscopes played into family fortunes. Wealth, power and status were conveyed through the artworks they commissioned.

From the visual works of Raphael and Botticelli to the written words of Dante and Shakespeare, we can see the impact astrology has had on the history of art and it's seductive power.

Astrology is a only gaining more momentum as a pop culture topic in literature, movies and television so I examine that aesthetic and impact here in this series.

I’ve looked to classical antiquity sculptors who created massive sculptures with multiple fine art nude figures. I’ve brought this into a more contemporary conversation using trompe de’oiel Op art.

It took a year to create this series. This has been a particularly interesting year. I have examined my ideas about consumerism and limited myself to only owning what fits into 3 primary colored suitcases. This allowed me to fly or drive quickly to a location to make these works.

It took weeks to plan each of the pieces and hours to paint them. I created sketches of the symbols and then got all the models together for a rehearsal. I sculpted the bodies and photographed them. I then drew the shape on top of the photos and added color. The day of the shoot, I reformed the shapes and tried to re-work the design according to the volunteer performers bodies. Sometimes I had to re-sculpt the design on site and even send some of the performers home if their bodies didn’t fit the sculpture.

The whole process took me 2-9 hours with the average work taking about six hours with the help of assistants. The finished result existed only briefly before the models hopped on the subways to go home and wash the paint off – with just a video and some photographs to record it.

These types of paintings always take enormous physical and mental energy to create but ultimately the impact is jaw-dropping and I have a lot of fun creating the work.

SISLEY PARIS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED ARTS

SISLEY PARIS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED ARTS

Sisley Paris Phyto Eye Twist

At the beginning of June, I had the opportunity to cooperate with Sisley Paris to assist at the famous Fashion Show of the Fashion department of the University of Applied Arts, which was celebrated in the Kunsthalle Vienna. The Show had a lot of highlights and it was the first show with new head Hussein Chalayan.

Thanks to Sisley Paris who was also the Makeup partner for this special event, I was allowed a look backstage and had the possibility to see the students working on the last details before they presented their collections.

I also had the chance to take a deeper look into the Makeup courtesy of Sisley Paris, where the Phyto Eye Twist was the protagonist of the look of the models. The Phyto-Eye twist is the first jumbo eye pencil from Sisley.

Python-Eye Twist has a texture that blends with the skin, the waterproof formula of the Phyto-Eye Twist is the result of the latest make-up innovations for remarkable performances: creamy to the touch, glides on perfectly, incomparable adhesion and softness.

Phyto-Eye Twist is playful and perfect for those on the move as it does not require sharpening and can be taken anywhere. It is applied in an ultra-practical stroke, guaranteeing an intense result and a quick application without smudging.

For me to be able to sit backstage and see how these versatile pencil works were amazing, and I have to say that I had the opportunity to learn a lot by the hands of the Makeup artists who helped the fashion class to accomplish the last touches on the models.

The fashion class at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in Austria is the only school with a Major university diploma in Fashion Design and is now one of the major European schools of contemporary fashion.

Since the early 1980s, the professors at the Fashion Class have been internationally popular fashion designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Jil Sander, Vivienne Westwood, Helmut Lang, Raf Simons, Viktor & Rolf, Bernhard Willhelm or - as at present - Hussein Chalayan.

Over the years Chalayan has partnered with many artists, musicians and actors among others, he also designed costumes for the London Dance Theatre Saddlers Wells and he has also collaborated with Swarovski. This visionary designer is able to merge technology, politics and architectural forms in runway shows that soften the line between art and fashion.

He was named British Designer of the Year in 1999 and 2000. In 2013 he received his last award "Fashion Visionary Award for his 20 years of Design Excellence during Audi Fashion Festival in Singapore. For me was a wonderful show and I’m looking forward to next year”.

FUTURE OF FASHION LONDON

FUTURE OF FASHION LONDON

Future of Fashion Interview Debbie Wingham

It is a creative academy for young people, it encourages confidence and offers young people the chance to acquire skills that will benefit them in their adult life regardless of if they choose a creative path or not. We talked to Debbie Wingham Founder of this beautiful project.

What inspired you to start the Future of fashion academy?

It was something that I always wanted to do because I often in my career have stumbled upon temporary barriers that I felt I could have resolved a lot faster with additional confidence, I had to wait of course until I had the correct fashion pedigree before I established the academy but I started writing the paper on how the academy would look and feel from a very young age if I remember correctly my early 20's so I have been sitting on this concept for above a decade.

What was the biggest influence on your love of fashion?

The expression of freedom and particularly working with kids because they have no inhibitions and design things that only youth could think of or if a designer thought of it they would probably be too afraid to exhibit.

What is your favorite part of being the tutor of future of fashion?

The individuality of each pupil and also the fact that we do a lot of things outside creativity like radio interviews, TV ‎, media-driven events and runway shows but. Most of all seeing the shyest and timid pupil display amazing confidence at the end of the workshops.

With young people, you can identify a difference in personal and creative growth and the feedback from the pupil's parents and kids alike is such a strong source of inspiration for me.

What do you want to reach with the future of fashion academy?

The main aim is to give young people a creative outlet to express themselves, often in schools art and textiles are not seen as important and resources are becoming minimal often due to budget and although this is understandable I think it's important for youngsters to have a creative release. I know a lot of my pupils envisage themselves as designers, stylists, fashion photographers and such and I'm sure this will help them progress within the fashion world but a lot just do the workshops because they enjoy them. The ultimate vision is not to create an academy of designers but to offer pupils confidence-building opportunities which will hopefully become beneficial when they go to enroll into higher education or the job market.

What do you want to achieve in the future with future of fashion academy?

My plan is to roll out into schools nationally which from September is been implemented and also to branch into the young designers whether self-taught or fresh from Fashion College, designers that have a mini collection and a plan for branding but don't know what to do next. I'm not suggesting I know all the answers but I can relate and I am going to try and offer designers realistic ways to grow and showcase and be seen because I understand how hard it is to find your niche and make your own little mark on the fashion world.

Future of fashion is mostly self-funded by myself, I now go into children's hospitals, schools and in September I will be the first creative to put under 16's in London Fashion Week. All my pupils have mini collections and they will be showcasing them on the runway themselves. Both designed and modeled by them, I really cannot wait, I am more excited than the kids I think!!!!

ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY CELEBRATION BY LOUIS MARIETTE

ROYAL HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY CELEBRATION BY LOUIS MARIETTE

BLOOMIN’ MARVELOUS

What an exciting day to attend the celebration of 25 years of the Royal Horticultural Society at Hampton Court Palace. As well as guests being treated to a visual  ” Smorgasbord” of flowers, the sun ‘pelted’ down and it was a delightful scorcher of a day. I take my hat off to all those displaying. The art of keeping their plants in optimum tip-top condition in such hot temperatures takes more than just a watering can!

There was an endless array of sensational displays. Here is the one particular garden that captured everything that I am.

AFRICAN VISION MALAWI – CELEBRATING 10 YEARS – designed by GABRIELLE EVAN

GOLD WINNER!

It was a mixture of joy, excitement, and emotion as I encountered this clever well thought out contemporary design. It was highlighting the urgent need to support Malawi, the country of my birth. Being with my parents at the time made this experience even more special. Around the external part of the garden were plants and vegetables often encountered from various regions in the country. However, the surprise of this design was the metallic cube within it, complete with miniature portholes on either side for guests to look into. Inside, the four walls were mirrored top to bottom reflecting the maize crop and creating a surreal effect of making space look so much bigger.

Sadly to say, Malawi has been facing very hard times and is listed as one of the 20 poorest countries. HIV/AIDS, Malaria, poor soil fertility for crops are just a few of the issues the country faces. However, the recent crippling floods have been devastating.

AFRICAN VISION MALAWI implements long-term projects and set up “THE LANDIRANI TRAINING VILLAGE”. To find out more about this incredible team and how to support their exciting projects, please check out: African Vision
