FAVOURITE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Beauty Products

Today I want to show you my makeup beauty products for September. Although I have the luck my skin is super easy to handle, I always try to keep hydrated. Moreover, I personally don’t like to wear too much makeup; therefore my makeup routine is very simple.

Not long ago I had the opportunity to discover LOV Cosmetics Products, they did an event in Vienna where I was invited and I could take a closer look at their products, and also to test their products, since then they are my favorite products of all, because the price is great and you can find them in most of the drugstores in Vienna.

They have a great color palette, and the best is that I can rely on their products.

I work a lot and I normally leave the house very early and I come back home at night, therefore I need a makeup that lasts the whole day, without having the need to retouch that often, with LOV Cosmetics I achieve that, and that's the reason I love their products that much.

The Makeup routine

Primer

For starters, I like to prepare my face with a hydrating cream and then I put on the Primer Serum Perfectitude of LOV.

This primer gives my skin a smoother look and more importantly, it has also 15 SPF, to protect my skin from UV damage. This step is very important to hold my makeup for the rest of the day, it not just is the perfect base for my makeup but also help my makeup to hold longer.

They also have an extra primer just for the eyes, which is also very good.

Foundation

Maybelline Matte + Poreless, I love this foundation, because is very light and gives me this matte finish I love the most, and most important it minimizes your pores. I usually apply it with the foundation of the brush of LOV Cosmetics.

Eyes

After my face is ready, I like to concentrate on my eyes, for that, I use the LOV Eyevolution palette 720, which have a bold metallic and shimmer colours. It has five different colours, and the effect you can get with this palette is great, I also use a lighter colour to highlight my eyebrows.

Afterwards, I use black eyeliner to define more my eyes and put mascara and that’s it. My favourite mascara: Scandaleyes from Rimmel.

Eyebrows

For my eyebrows I use the all in one brow kit from Chanel, which is very versatile and very easy to use, the important is to blended well to give this extra definition to your eyebrows.

Contouring

Another cool palette LOV Cosmetics has is for contouring, as I have a very round face, I love to give a bit contouring to your face, like this I can define and highlight my cheekbones.

This palette has a matte base, and one shiny powder with a nice illuminating blush that you can actually play with, the idea is to enhance and sculpt my face in the easiest way possible.

For this step, I also use the Duo Contouring brush from LOV Cosmetics.

Lipstick

One of my favorites on the list are the lipsticks from Urban Decay, especially the matte colours! They last almost the whole day, although I have to retouch my lips after lunch, which is normal!

My color: Backtalk Comfort Matte.

Last but not least, another trick I use to hold my makeup for the whole day I use (before I put the mascara) the 3in1 Matte & fix Spray of LOV Cosmetics, one word: Amazing!

STAGE DESIGNER LENA QUIST

STAGE DESIGNER LENA QUIST

Stage Designer Lena Quist

Lena Quist is a Swedish stage wear designer who is currently living in Berlin Germany. Lena has conquered the stage world by designing for the Eurovision Contest, Britain got Talent and ARROJO NYC's hair shows in Europe and the US, among others. Her designs had appeared in different Fashion Magazines like Vogue Paris and she was nominated for an Etsy Award 2015.

When did you know you wanted to be a Stage wear designer?

Originally I just wanted to be a fashion designer. From the age of 14. The glamour of the red carpet, the fashion shows, and the glossy fashion magazines; I wanted to be a part of all that. When I started the brand back in 2006 glam rock was the big thing. It suited me perfectly. I loved the music and the over-the-top costumes and the fashion influenced by it. It was exactly what I wanted to create. From there it just came naturally that bands, and singers, in particular, started buying my designs to wear on stage. But it wasn’t until a few years ago I decided to let go of the fashion part of the brand and position myself a stage wear designer.

What’s it like being in the Stage wear industry?

It’s showbiz, so short deadlines are my everyday life. You have to be very flexible and creative on demand.

Tell us your experience in the Eurovision Contest

That was the first time I saw my designs on a major stage in front of millions of viewers. It was a great moment. The stress to finish 6 pieces of my most advanced design in a short time when it was almost completely new was a challenge, but seeing the dancers on stage made it totally worth it.

What is most important at the moment to design an outfit for a stage performance?

You have only a few seconds to make an impression on the audience, so the costume has to have that WOW-factor. The outfit is such an important part of the show. The right one will lift the performance to a whole new level. But a memorable look isn’t all; it also has to be comfortable and stay in place, so the artist won’t suffer a wardrobe malfunction.

How is the fashion industry in your home country?

Sweden’s got a good fashion scene, with many labels renowned worldwide. The Scandinavian style is very stylish and sleek. Very toned down. On the opposite side of the scale from me, haha.

What was your first job in the fashion industry?

I landed my first job as a fashion designer one week after graduating from fashion school. But it wasn’t set to start until 8 months later. During these 8 months, I started my own handmade brand to have an income, and I even managed to get a few retailers to carry it in their stores around Sweden. So when I received a call that another designer bought the label I was going to design for and they offered me a job - and in return expected me to close down my own brand - I declined the offer and went my own way. So I’ve never worked for another brand than my own.

Talk about the changes in your life since you’ve your own Brand.

To be honest I barely remember what my life was like without it. I was so young when I started; I had just turned 22, and I’m now 34. Following the dream of building this brand has been with me for the bigger part of my adult life, and even before I actually started I dreamed of it. But I can tell you this; when you start a brand with merely 200€ on your pocket and a dream you are going to experience what it feels like to be really poor. But I don’t regret starting when I did and how I did it.

How do you choose your inspiration?

I’m very impulsive with inspiration, it can come from anything at any time, and when it happens I just need to sketch to get all the ideas out on a paper. And later I will revisit them to see which ideas are worth taking to the next step in the process because I try to always stay in tune with the aesthetics of my brand. My customers expect a certain amount of futurism, glam rock, and sex appeal. But in my opinion, those things are like spices you can add to any concept to get that extra special flavor.

In one word: how would you define yourself as a designer?

Bold

What advice would you pass along to those starting in the Fashion Business?

Be persistent and stay true to yourself. Believe that you can do it, even when no-one else does. Never stop pushing your limits to evolve. And most importantly; you have to be obsessed with this job because hardship and suffering will be a part of the path. You will face rejection and as a solo entrepreneur you will at times be lonely, but if you are truly passionate about it you will get through those days/weeks/months when it feels like you just want to lay down and give up because you know that your dream is bigger than those feelings.

What was the inspiration for your last collection?

I gave up the collection thinking about 5 years ago. As a stage wear designer, I don’t need to follow the traditional fashion rules, so I have my Signature Line which I update around the year with new designs every now and then. It has given me greater creative freedom, I think.

However, I have been toying around with the idea of taking upon collections again to make more exclusive extravagant limited edition designs only available for a short period of time. I used to love telling a story with my collections and I miss that part, so it’s possible I will pick up on it again.

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER GERALDINE TORRES

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER GERALDINE TORRES

Fashion Photographer Geraldine Torres

Geraldine Torres is a fashion and editorial photographer from New York, which I stumble upon on Instagram a few weeks ago. I have to say her photos are amazing and she has such positive energy I knew I have to had her on the blog. Today I bring you guys her interview with great photos of her work.

How is the fashion in New York City?

Fashion in the States is diverse. Just how we are the country of the free, I can say that as well about fashion. It's amazing to see so much variety in the way people express their individual style with fashion.

How would you define beauty?

Beauty is confidence and maintenance. When you feel confident, it shows. When you give your body importance and do things to maintain it, it glows.

Were you educated in photography or are you a self-taught photographer?

Since I started dipping my heart into photography, I have self-taught myself. I bought books, paid for courses, and watched youtube HOW TO’s like ALLL DAY!

What camera do you use most of the time?

I have a Canon 5D Mark II full-frame body, but my go-to lens is my 50mm.

Which photo are you currently most proud of?

I mostly work with kyrzayda (fashion influencer) on a weekly basis and every time we shoot it’s like a new favorite pops up. This time was different. I actually took these photos a few hours after I found out my grandma passed away and we had to do these photos on that day due to a deadline we had already committed to. Anyways, this one is extra special because of the way the sunlight was hitting her on that spot and it was just magical. My grandma was shedding light on us...so I believe. Also, this photo represents 100% what my style in photography really is, dreamy and editorial.

Comparing where you are now with where you are when you first started, what could you have done differently to get to where you are sooner?

Honestly, there isn’t anything I would change or do differently. I like to analyze everything before ever taking a step, at least when it comes to my business. I have a saying and if you want to describe who I am, this is the way. “If you are going to do something, do it right…if not, don’t do it at all”.

You’ve clearly worked with a wide range of models, what tips can you recommend to people looking to expand their portfolio?

I think I started like every other photographer out there… ask your friends and family. I’ve landed so many jobs because of them, it was like a domino effect. Once I felt comfortable enough with my work, I started to reach out to people who I actually wanted to work with. In my case, influencers and boutiques. Offer them a one-time courtesy photo session. If they love your work, I promise they will call you back for paid jobs. Only limit your “free time” to 3 brands/models max. Remember you should never work for free.

Describe a typical shoot.

COFFEE, SHOOT, CHANGE LOOKS/ LOCATION, COFFEE, REPEAT.

How much time do you spend taking photos, versus retouching photos?

A typical session takes about 2 hours max, depending on how much fun we are having, hehe. Retouching takes no more than an hour in most cases.

Favorite accessory?

My 50mm lens. I love her <3

Who would you like to work with most?

I never really gave this thought. I've had the opportunity to work with some pretty amazing people at some pretty amazing places so far. I do, however, would love to partner up on a cool project with a well-established brand or magazine.

Favorite photography book?

So I have this book that I call my photography “bible”. When I first started working with a DSLR camera, I was so determined to learn how to use it in Manual Mode. I went to Barnes and Noble's to see what I could find... and literally as I’m walking in... I saw this book on the sale section shelf for a whole $5 dollars. The book that probably helped me get started my career in photography. This is the how-to book I recommend everyone.
