RUSSIAN PHOTOGRAPHER EKATERINA BELINSKAYA

Russian Photographer Ekaterina Belinskaya

Ekaterina Belinskaya is a Russian born photographer and visual artist who is based in Los Angeles. She describes her style as dark, romantic, storytelling. She loves art that makes you feel something and think.  Her main purpose is to give beauty and feelings through her art. Color and light are the tools that help her to show her world.

When did you know you wanted to be a photographer?

Sometimes I feel that it meant to be. I always loved movies about photographers. I always thought that photography is pure magic. Just think! We are able to capture what our eyes can see!! But I started photography when I was 19, after getting my first real camera... At age 25 I quit my office job and since then it’s my full-time job/life passion.

What is most important at the moment you take a picture?

Always the feelings. You should feel the love when you create and put it into your creature.

From where you get your inspiration?

From everything! Movies, music, art, light, shadows, people I work with, places...

How do you look for the perfect spots?

For the idea I already have I know how the place should look like and I google it or scout till I find it.

Describe a typical shoot?

I create a  good board to show my team the idea: of the mood/vibe, of the make-up and hair look, styling. Then we discuss. The team work is very important and I’m blessed to work with the most talented people. When we all agree and love the look for my idea: I set up the lights (if it’s a studio shoot), while the beauty team creates its magic. Then I shoot.. On location, I use natural light most of the time.

Were you educate in photography, or are yourself taught?

I’m self-taught

What camera do you use most of the time?

Since I started I use Canon, but now I really interested in Sony Alpha. I hope to get my own baby the next year.

Which photo are you currently most proud of?

It’s hard... I have about my favorite 50 pictures that I love and can’t choose from them.

How is the fashion industry in your home country?

I think it’s growing. We have a lot of talents and they create! Can’t wait to see what happens in a few years.

Comparing where you are now with where you are when you first started, what could you have done differently to get to where you are sooner?

I don’t like to regret. Our way is our way and I had to go it as I did. I would change nothing. Even my office job, and education time... I spend almost 9 Yeats for that. And I could say: don’t be afraid. Quit earlier. Do what you love and money will come. I won’t say that. Coz everything I went through made me the person who I am now.

Favorite photography book?

Not the photo book but a book about the photographer and the way! I think every photographer should read it. Biography of Helmut Newton. It gave me a lot to think about.

With whom you would like to work the most?

Different talented artists. Too many to name. But I’m working on it.

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER ANDRE SCHNEIDER

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER ANDRE SCHNEIDER

Fashion Photographer Andre Schneider

Andre Schneider Fashion Photographer originally from Brazil, today Andre is based in New York. We discover Andre on Behance when I was looking for inspiring photographers after I saw his pictures I knew I had to make him an interview.

When did you know you wanted to be a Fashion Photographer?

I’ve always loved photography since I was a child, so it was a very easy decision (although with some detours along the way) going into photography.

What is most important at the moment you take a picture?

I think it’s a sum of everything from the time you decide on a concept, going on how you develop that idea, the whole team that does the shoot, model, makeup and hair, stylist, location, light, etc. Everything culminates into the moment when you push the button. If everything is great, then pushing the button is just a consequence.

From where you get your inspiration as a Fashion Photographer

I get it from life, experience, art, everything. It could be someone or something I see on the street, a song I hear, a smell, a movie, a painting, anything, and everything.

How do you look for the perfect spots?

The same thing as inspiration, it can come from anywhere. I could be walking around the city and find a cool spot that will inspire me to shoot an editorial there, or I could go and research online or look for location scouts if I need a specific place for a specific idea.

Describe a typical shoot.

It starts with an idea, be it from my head or from the client, or from the fashion stylist or makeup artist. Then I choose the best model for that idea (or sometimes the client chooses it), think about lighting, location, mood, etc, all the variables that go into the shoot, how I envision the final look to be. I always like to get the day of the shoot with the least amount of variables in the air. Of course, there’s always some chance of plans as we start shooting, but to get to the day well prepared is 90% of a good shoot.

If I do all my homework before the shoot starts, then I can focus on making the best pictures possible instead of trying to figure out everything on the fly. Then on the day of the shoot I normally arrive at least an hour before everybody to get everything ready, then it’s makeup/hair, talking to the client about ideas, doing light tests and making sure everybody is on the same page and having some fun while shooting!

Normally at the end of the day, I’m exhausted even if the shoot is not physically demanding, just because it’s always a lot of effort being put into it. But I’m always happy! 😀

Were you educate in photography, or are you taught?

I took some workshops here and thereafter I was already a working photographer, but mainly self-taught.

What camera do you use most of the time?

Contax 645 is my main camera, then anything from Nikon, Canon, Leica, Fuji, Pentax, digital and film. Whatever gets the job done.

As a fashion-photographer, which photo are you currently most proud of?

I always try to make the last photoshoot my best photoshoot ever, but there are some photos that hold a special place in my heart. Like this one for example:

We took this opportunity to make her an interview about her career and what is her next goal.

When did you start playing the piano?

I started at the age of 5 when my teachers at kindergarten meant that I am singing so beautiful.

When did you knew, playing the piano was your dream?

At my very first public concert appearance at the age of five, I immediately knew: this is it!

Where was the most significant presentation you had, and why?

Although I performed at different concert halls all over Europe and even overseas I still feel very excited to give a concert in Vienna at Musikverein or Konzerthaus with my family and friends in the audience.

With which artist, you would like to perform?

I do not have any names in my mind, more important to me seems to be that we find the right energy between us.

What is your next goal?

Besides to have more interesting performances in amazing concert halls I would like to focus more on my educational activity with my scholars.

THE PERFECT DIRNDL

THE PERFECT DIRNDL

Perfect Dirndl Outfit

The October Fest is around the corner, and for that, we need the perfect Dirndl. For those of you that had never heard before this word, Dirndl is the traditional Costume for this region.

Whether is a traditional dress (Dirndl), the leader's pants or the trachtenjanker ( the traditional jacket for men) the traditional Fashion is here. The famous Dirndl is worn in Austria, South Tyrol and Bavaria (A German region) and is based on the traditional Clothing Alps farmers.

The classic dirndl varies from one region to the other, but the truth is that is fun to wear it and get lost among the visitors of the October Fest or the Wiener Wiesn Fest in Vienna.

In Vienna the Wiener Wiesn Fest is celebrated between September 27 to October 14, on the Kaiserwiese in the Prater, there you will find Austrian Beer, local food and the traditional folk music.

The October Fest is celebrated in Munich that belongs to the region of Bavaria, and is celebrated from September 22 to October 7th, and is the worlds largest Volkfest. A funny fact is that back in 2013 7.7 million liters of beer were served.

If you are planning to go to the October Fest this year, or the Wiener Wiesn, a proper outfit is required! And here you have the most beautiful Dirndl I have found so far.

The Venezuelan Dirndl

Although I am from Venezuelan, the traditional German costume was nothing new, because one hour away from Caracas, we have our very own German Town call La Colonia Tovar, and everybody is wearing the traditional Costume.

La Colonia Tovar was founded in 1843 by a group of German Immigrants from the Black Forest region, that's why if you see a picture of La Colonia Tovar you will probably think that town is in Germany whether in the heart of the Caribbean.

Nevertheless this year I am particularly excited about the October festivities of Vienna, and I will embrace it with the Traditional costume.
