ARTIG INTIMATES COPENHAGEN

ARTIG INTIMATES COPENHAGEN

Artig Intimates Copenhagen

Artig Intimates was founded in fall 2014, in Copenhagen, a city with a long history of quality design.

The people behind are Julie Elisabeth who is the owner and the designer and Michelle who is PR Manager. The thought was to create a universe of conscious, relaxed, romantic luxury lingerie, by women, for women.

Julie and Michelle believe it is possible to have an ethical production and spare the environment.

Danish Design is well recognized worldwide, it was developed in the mid-20th century; the Danish design is a style of functionalistic, influenced by the German Bauhaus School, Danish designers used the new industrial technologies, combined with simplicity and functionalism.

For me personally underwear is a key piece for a whole outfit, I believe women should feel sexy from the inside out, and underwear apart of functionally and beautiful, it has to be comfortable.

Artig intimates are made by hand and are sustainable, relaxed, romantic luxury lingerie, tailor-made from organic and eco-friendly fabric, is underwear, made to satisfy the sexy women’s.

We Talk to Julie, to learn more about this company and how the idea was developed, and why she chooses these particular fabrics to produce these beautiful pieces.

How did the idea of Artig Intimates develop?

One day I cleaned out my old sewing stuff, here I found some underwear I once made. This reminded me of an old idea, about having my own lingerie company. So I started creating some different prototypes of lingerie. Once it was done I send a picture of it to my friend, Michelle. She asked me if she could be my PR manager, first I thought she was kidding, but it quickly turned out to be serious. And I realized, that maybe I was on to something. That is how Artig intimates were born.

What makes Artig Intimates special?

What sets Artig Intimates apart from other lingerie companies, is our aesthetic and that we are sustainable. We are a small company and I make every piece of lingerie myself. This makes the bond between the customer and us quite personal.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

Our aesthetic builds on Scandinavian design principals of simplicity and function. I combine that with romantic details, which makes the collection both sweet and simple, with the characteristic of being innocent, thereby the name “Artig”, which means, ”well behaved” in Danish.

Where do you go for inspiration?

I often take inspiration in the women surrounding me and build an entire imaginary universe around them. I then wonder what they would like in this dream universe and hold it against what they need in real life. The collection creates a symbiosis between the two.

Tell us about your material, and why did you choose these materials?

We put a great deal in being sustainable and strive to make our pieces from as much organic fabric as we can.

In the future we want to keep making everything in Denmark, ensuring ethical work conditions, thus minimizing waste.

WAKA YOGI PRESENTS

WAKA YOGI PRESENTS

Benefits of Yoga by Waka Yogi

Yoga is beyond a sport; it's a way of life. Many experiments over the years have found that yoga has a direct effect on the nervous system, heart rate and the body's ability to heal various ailments. Its effect lies not only in the physical part of the body but also in its direct effect on the mind.

FLEXIBILITY

Improved flexibility is one of the clearest benefits of Yoga practice. Although at first, you won't be able to effectively do every pose, however, you'll notice a gradual loosening of your body, and eventually, seemingly impossible poses will become possible.

JOINTS

It has been determined that the constant practice of Yoga can help prevent and alleviate arthritis degenerative ailments.

SPINE

The spinal disks crave movement, this is the only way they can get their nutrients, and with the stretching movements of yoga, you'll help keep your disks supple.

BONES

Yoga strengthens bones and helps ward off osteoporosis. It can also lower the levels of the stress hormone Cortisol, helping to keep calcium in the bones.

CIRCULATION

Yoga makes the blood flow more, carrying more oxygen to the cells. Yoga postures allow oxygenated blood to flow to the internal organs, keeping them healthy, also boost Hemoglobin levels and red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the tissues. Yoga also helps reduce Heart attacks and strokes because it thins the blood platelets are less sticky and by cutting the level of clotting proteins in the blood.

LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

Yoga helps the lymphatic system fight infection, destroy cancerous cells and get rid of waste products that derive from the functioning of cells.

The constant practice of yoga, not only is going to help you stay fit, but it will also help you from the inside out, by improving your perception of all situations, either in happiness or stress, and connecting us with ourselves at a deeper level.

We talked to Waka Yogi, to know to learn more about this beautiful practice. Waka Yogi is a Yoga teacher in Japan with 7 years of experience teaching regular and hot yoga in both Tokyo and Osaka.  In 2013 she made a 20 episode Yoga TV show for Fox Japan supported by Reebok, and she also appeared on Asia's Next Top Model 2 as a guest Yoga teacher. In early 2014, with the full support of Google, she filmed 650 yoga poses at the YouTube Tokyo Creator Space. Here you can visit Waka Yogi´s youtube channel.

Why did you start practicing yoga?

I used to be a long-distance swimmer for about 10 years and I was swimming up to 16km a day, so I have always been very healthy. About 7 years ago I decided to apply for a job as a Hot Yoga teacher in Osaka as I wanted to make my profession teaching people to be super healthy. In Japan, most Yoga schools are very high class and expensive places, the schools are seen as a luxurious place to relax and rejuvenate. People do Yoga to unwind and de-stress so it is a very positive profession as I really get to help a lot of people feel better about their bodies and their lives. I love teaching Yoga.

How did the practice of yoga change your life?

Teaching Yoga has allowed me to add value to many people in my life. Everyone looks up to you as a healthy person and in a way, you become a community leader.

I have been able to teach and inspire thousands of people to become healthier, more relaxed and happier so this has been a very positive thing for me. It has made me very happy.

For me personally it has really toned every part of my body and it makes me a happy person. Nothing is better than relaxing people for a living.

How long did it take you to master the practice of yoga?

When I was a long-distance swimmer we used to stretch for at least 20 minutes before each session. So I found that I could learn Yoga very fast as I never lost my innate flexibility that many people do from not doing regular exercise.  However, over the last seven years, I have continually studied and I have always been looking to learn new and interesting poses. I don't believe anyone masters yoga, rather it is a lifelong journey.

Why did you start your yoga YouTube channel?

After the success of my Yoga show on Fox, I heard that Google was building a new 12 million dollar YouTube Creator Space in Tokyo. There was already one in London, New York, and LA, so I was very excited.  They generously allowed me to use their facilities to film 650 Yoga poses professionally.  It was very exciting.  Now I can teach yoga to anyone in the world 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  It is very humbling.

What are you looking to change in other people's lives with your yoga Youtube channel?

The idea of my site is that you can design your own Yoga lessons using the playlist feature of YouTube. When you buy a DVD or attend a lesson, often there are many poses that you cannot do or are too difficult for you for a variety of reasons. With my Yoga YouTube channel, you can tailor your own Yoga lessons to exactly your ability and available time.  There are hundreds of beginner, intermediate and challenging poses, plus I have also filmed many preparations poses as well as variations of the more popular posts. Many people only end up practicing a narrow range of Yoga poses in their classes. With my Yoga YouTube channel, I hope to make yoga more accessible to beginners by demonstrating a wide range of interesting poses so that it always remains new.

What would you recommend to someone who wants to start practice yoga?

I would suggest they start with very simple basic stretches. Try to understand the limitations of your body and don't try anything too difficult until you are absolutely ready. Learning yoga is a slow process that should always be done safely.  On my YouTube channel I have 48 warm-ups and cool down poses, so I strongly suggest you start with those.

PEPE JEANS PRODUCT MANAGER FRANCISCO FUENTES

PEPE JEANS PRODUCT MANAGER FRANCISCO FUENTES

Pepe Jeans London is a denim and casual wear jeans brand established in the Portobello Road area of London in 1973 and based in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Spain. From its origins as a tiny market stall to a US$ 500 million brand, Pepe has transformed itself into a jeans-wear label throughout Europe. The brand today has a presence in more than 80 countries across the world.

In 1973, it was originally just a weekend roadside stall on the Portobello Road Market located in West London established by three brothers: Nitin Shah, Arun Shah, and Milan Shah. Nitin and his two brothers later started their own company Sholemay Ltd trading, as Pepe Jeans. The brand was named "Pepe'' because it was a short word that could be written without much trouble.

We recently talk to Francisco Fuentes Mella, Product Manager at Pepe Jeans for North Europe and Mexico, to discover more about how a business administrator arrives in the fashion world, and what exactly a Product Manager for a big company does.

For those who don’t know you, talk about your background.

My name is Francisco Fuentes Mella and I am coming from Business and Administration with a specialization in Marketing. I know that is not really related to fashion but in this sector, in the end, you need to sell.

After studying Administration and Political Science, why did you enter in the Fashion Industry?

Right now, I am taking Politics Science in the distance university because I really like to study and learn new things. I have entered in fashion because it is my passion. I enjoy a lot working in this sector and my dream is to create a women brand.

What's it like being in the Fashion industry?

It is amazing, coming from a business school I could work in finance, but I really enjoy this sector. I like everything, doing shopping trips, checking the new trends, study competitors, doing fittings, and so on. This sector or you love it or if not it is better to work in another thing; to have success you have to live it.

What was your first job in the fashion industry?

My first job was in New York as an assistant for a fashion stylist and also my boss at that time she had a showroom for new American designers. It was my best year as we did a lot of cool stuff and it was there when I have seen that this is my sector and I had to put all my effort to rock in this sector.

Talk about the changes in your life since you’ve taken as Product Manager at Pepe Jeans.

Being a Product Manager in Pepe Jeans is really cool because it is a big company but in the headquarters, we are not so many, so at the end of the day you have to multitask and it is very important for me. So, right now I am also doing the special production for the retail channel and it is so much fun working with the designers, pattern makers,… close! Here is where I can show my creativity and passion for this sector.

Describe what do you do in your work?

Basically you have to be very close to the stores in terms of product and have all of them always with the right product and sizes. It is really annoying when one customer leaves the store without buying because there is not a good size or the good style. Besides, I am doing some buying tasks as I said before for the special production.

What do you like about your work?

To be honest, I have to admit that I like everything about it. I really enjoy every day and as this sector is changing a lot; there is always something different every day.

What advice would you pass along to those starting out in the Fashion Business?

My advice is that you have to love and have a passion for this sector. If you don’t feel that maybe is better to go to another sector because work in fashion is very demanding and you have to be 100% every day.

Besides, curiosity is another advice as this sector is changing really fast and coming to new competitors every year; you have to be very fresh to bring success for your company.

LA PERLA INTERNSHIP BY GIULIA PANDOLFINO

LA PERLA INTERNSHIP BY GIULIA PANDOLFINO

La Perla Internship

For those of you, who are studying Fashion is always important to gain experience, and make as much internship as you can. Today it's difficult to enter the business world and is particularly hard to develop in the Fashion industry where every day the competition gets stronger and stronger.

For us Fashion designers, we have a long way to go and as my Friend, Heidi said one day you are in, and the next day you are out. I believe we have to transform ourselves in little sponges, to absorb as much information as we can, to build our career to be able one day to reach the top.

We talk with Giulia Pandolfino, she recently made an internship by La Perla, and she is going to tell us her story.

La Perla is a luxury Italian women's clothing company specializing in underwear. La Perla was founded in 1954 in Bologna, Italy by corset-maker Ada Masotti. The company began manufacturing swimwear in 1971 and in 1993, it expanded into perfume.

As well as being stocked in department stores internationally, La Perla has over 150 boutiques globally including London Sloane Street, New York Madison and Milan Via Montenapoleone. La Perla launched its new boutique concept in London and Milan in February 2014, followed by the opening of boutiques in Macau and Hong Kong in April 2014.

When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

I always had an interest in art from a very young age, but coming from Malta, (where there is nothing related to fashion) it was very unrealistic for me to dream of being a designer. At the age of 13, I looked into the idea of moving to London to be able to take my love for art and fashion further, which thankfully I managed to achieve.

What's it like being in the Fashion industry?

The fashion industry is fast-paced and more competitive than I ever imagined, but also really exciting to be a part of and be doing something you love every day.

What was your first job in the fashion industry?

My first experience was as an intern with a new-coming designer, where her garments were entirely made of plastics, leathers and metallic foils, all pieced together with metal rings and studs. I was able to help in making some of these pieces, which were a nice hands-on learning experience.

Talk about the changes in your life since you’ve taken as a Design Assistant at La Perla.

Since working with La Perla for my placement year as part of my university course, I advanced greatly in my professionalism, creative and technical abilities, which I am sure, will help me immensely for my graduate collection when returning to the final year.

Describe what do you do in your work?

I begin my gathering inspirational imagery that appeals to me, whilst also combining it with the need for something new or innovative that might be needed in the market. My designs start as rough drawings, which continue to be altered, shortlisted and finalized. I work well in 3D, so I take a lot of time in sampling my designs so that I may be able to make the necessary changes to the design and fit of the garments.

What do you like about your work?

I like garments, which contour and compliment the body, so being able to work in a field that specifically does so comes naturally to me when designing.

What advice would you pass along to those starting out in the Fashion Business?

I would advise them to not be so hard on themselves and compare themselves to others, and that studying and working in fashion needs dedication and a true love for what they are doing.

What inspires you?

I tend to be inspired by things that in some way resemble my character and myself. I find that textures and fabrics are a good starting point for my inspiration.

INTERNATIONAL MODEL EDUARDO COSTANTE

It is not a secret that Venezuela is well known as one of the most  beautiful countries of the world, with the most beautiful beaches and the oldest  Mountains formations of the earth, Venezuela is also known by the beautiful and warm people.Venezuela has accumulated more internationals beauty titles than any other country, including seven Miss Universe winners, six Miss World winners, six Miss International winners and two Miss Earth.

One of the reasons why Venezuela have so many beautiful people, I believe is because with the discovery of oil in 1914, Venezuela became a country with great potential to attract people from all over the world. Also in 1946 the Venezuelan president Romulo Betancourt gave support to the refugees and displaced people who could not return to their homes after WWII and chose to emigrate to Venezuela. He assumed responsibility for the legal protection and resettlement of tens of thousands of refugees arriving in Venezuela.
