EMBROIDERY DESIGN PATRIZIA BERMEJO GOMEZ

Fashion Designer Patrizia Bermejo Gomez

Patrizia Bermejo Gomez is a young Fashion designer who studied fine arts at the University of Granda. Her real journey started when she went to Paris to do a master's degree and decide to learn to engrave and start fashion design and after she decided to be specialized in embroidery. She got the opportunity to do an internship at Vivienne Westwood, in London, where she was hired as an illustrator and embroidery designer for the Gold Label and the Couture departments. When she finished her internship by Vivienne Westwood, she decided to return to Spain and create her own first collection. Last September she started to work as a bridal and couture designer for Miguel Palacio and nowadays she is his head designer.

Where did you study Fashion Design?

I started fashion design in the "Istituto Marangoni", in Paris. After obtaining the best qualifications (30/30) I got a scholarship to do the master's degree in "Istituto Marangoni" Milan. It was a wonderful experience, but once I finished I felt that I needed to specialize in something. I had always loved to do embroidery, so I decided to study Haute Couture embroidery in the best worldwide school "Lesage", in Paris.

When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

I think I knew it since I was a child. Even though I decided to study fine arts, the majority of my projects turned around fashion. When I went to Paris to do the master's degree, I wanted to do a thesis based on the combination of art and fashion; it was then when I finally decided to assume that I had to start studying fashion.

What's it like being in the Fashion industry?

I think it really depends on the kind of work you have, and on what market niche you work for. I think you can always try to develop your creativity in any job, but it will never be the same to work in couture or a mass-market brand. It is obviously easier to be more playful, or creative in high fashion rather than in a technical job, but even if it is more difficult there is always away, and that is one of my aims. I chose to work in fashion because I wanted to translate my imagination to garments, it isn't easy all the time but it makes me happy.

What was your first job in the fashion industry?

My first job was in Paris, doing illustrations for t-shirts.

Describe what do you do in your work?

When you work in a small company you can always do a lot more things than in a big company. I assist Miguel in everything from the election of the colors to the ideas of the fashion show planning. I have to coordinate many things with him, shapes, patterns, accessories, fabrics, suppliers, brides,…So many responsibilities make me proficient to improve my skills and knowledge.

Why did you specialize in Embroidery

I have always loved artisanal traditions and things made by hand. I liked embroidery and when I was thinking about specializing I went to "Lesage" to get some information and I fell in love with it.

Talk about the changes in your life since you've taken as a designer in Miguel Palacio

My life, in a professional way, has changed a lot since I started at "Miguel Palacio". The fact of acquiring so many responsibilities helped me to mature really quickly and overall to become more resolutive and learn how to solve problems faster.

What do you like about your work?

I love to work with somebody so creative that listen to my opinion and let me participate in so many parts of the collection process.

What advice would you pass along to those starting out in the Fashion Business?

Never let the pressure make you lose your creativity, and overall never give up if you want to reach your dreams.

What inspires you?

"Life", everything that surrounds me…

Tell us about the process of becoming an actor

It started when I auditioned for reality TV show Big Brother in 2009. Although I didn’t make it into the house, I made some vital contacts, which led to my first screen role, as a doorman, in 2011 film weekender

Tell me about a time where you had difficulty turning yourself into a character. What was the character and why was it challenging?

Maleficent 2014 I was one of King Henry’s soldiers.  We were fighting against the blue screen with numerous mythical creatures, which did not exist, getting into the character fighting something, which isn’t actually there, was quite challenging

What was your most memorable role? Why?

It has to be BBC soap EastEnders, I play a Walford FC football player.  It is just a small extra part but I have wanted to appear in Eastenders since I was a very young age.  It won’t be screening until later this year.

I also got down to the final two people to play Johnny Depp's double in the Alice in Wonderland Sequel.  Unfortunately, I did not get the part, but to be told you look like Johnny Depp can’t be bad can it?

Tell me about an area in which you would like to improve as an actor

I would like to improve on my action and fight scenes.  Perhaps even attend a stunt course.

What kind of roles do you prefer?

I like playing roles in medieval times and period dramas, the costumes and props are very interesting

What are your strong points as an actor?

I would say my personality and sense of humor

What would be your dream role and what you feel you would bring to it

To get the main part of a new blockbuster movie would be my dream.

What would you recommend to someone who is starting in this business?

Don’t ever give up, chances are you will get lots of knock backs but your chance will come.  The main thing is to enjoy what you do

What have you learned from the directors that you have work with throughout your career?

How to take direction and really come out of yourself to play your role

If you could change just one thing about the industry with the wave of a magic wand, what would it be?

You shouldn’t have to go to acting/theatre school, for anyone to be picked off the street to appear as the main character in a major movie

What do you love about your job, and why?

I love meeting so many new peoples, and to have fun.  I have made some very close friends in some of my early films.

Are there any new projects you are working on that you can talk about?

I have a few things coming up for the summer which I can’t really talk about at the moment.  And BBC Eastenders will be airing later this year.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION – BE HEALTHY, BE FIT

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION – BE HEALTHY, BE FIT

New Years have arrived and are a time for resolution. Nine times out of ten, people decide to start a fitness regime in their New Year resolution. Every person wants to start the year in a healthy way. But, they just don’t know to start. Every year a new fitness resolution is made and forgotten. Here is how you can start your New Year with the right fitness program that will suit your needs.

The first question, you need to answer, is: Why?

Every person has different needs, Some want to lose excess weight, meanwhile, others just want to maintain their weight. There is another group of people, suffering from medical conditions, who have other needs. Once you answer why you want to start this journey, you can effectively work out a program that is good for you.

It’s necessary to have a goal when you start a fitness program. This will help you to stick to your program. Having a goal will also help map your progress when you workout and help you decide whether the chosen fitness regime is effective or not.

The gym is not your Only Option

A lot of people think the answer to weight loss is going to the gym, however, this option can be expensive for some, and requires a lot of time and effort.

Normally, when you make the decision to join the gym, you will need to spare the time to reach the gym, park the car, waiting time for the equipment, shower and then the time is taken to go back home, you must know for sure, the amount of time you can devote to a planned workout, in a gym. Only then must you join a gym.

Home Based Fitness Regime

If you decide to train at home there are numerous workout equipment available in the market today, or you can find a lot of videos on the Internet that you can follow. Fitness experts would tell you that walking and running are the easier, natural, and more pleasing forms of exercise, which also help build stamina, promote weight loss, and make for healthy living.

Be Prepared For a Diet

One thing, you need to know about 80% of a weight loss program, is the diet, and 20% is exercise. Fitness and diet go hand by hand. You cannot start a fitness program if you are not willing to change your eating habits. Once you get rid of the extra calories in a daily basis, your body will start changing with the time, remember that you are changing your entire life to enter in the healthy pact, not for a while but for a long term, super-fast diets will help you for a couple of weeks but the weight will return.

Commitment

This is the hardest part of any program; stick to your program in the sunny and in the gray days will make the difference. Sometimes we wake up, and we want to stay in bed and eat a chocolate cake, but to stay strong and be committed to your program, will make a difference tomorrow. Remember you have to have the patience to see results.

Keep it exciting

To have a fixed daily routine becomes quite boring after a while. It’s important to keep interested and continue with your exercise and diet plan. Most people stop exercising, once they think that they can no longer lose more weight then than they have lost. Others just get lazy or are plain unexcited by the prospect of the daily exercise regimen.

Incorporate excitement into your fitness program. You can do this by making certain little changes in the exercises or focusing on short-term goals.

These are a few pointers that you will have considered before you start working on your New Years Resolution. These are definitely not the only factors that you have to take into consideration if you want to start the year with the right fitness regime, but they will definitely help you embark upon a successful fitness plan.

GABRIELLA PICCOLO FASHION DESIGNER LONDON

GABRIELLA PICCOLO FASHION DESIGNER LONDON

Fashion Designer Gabriella Piccolo London

Gabriella Piccolo, is a young fashion designer graduate from the London College of Fashion, but her career started more than 5 years ago, collecting all the experience she could.

She made internships, by Mulberry Moon, The Rodnik Band, McQ Alexander McQueen and L’Wren Scoot. But more important she won the Graduate ASOS Marketplace and Clothes Show Live Competition.

She was also shortlisted by London College of Fashion and Unilever to participate in a high-profile event, celebrating 50 years of Unilever's brands. The event would showcase five looks from her graduate collection featured on an interactive catwalk and a reward of £500 would be received for the right to have her work shown.

We talk to her about her graduation collection by London College of Fashion and to get to know Gabriella a little bit more.

For those who don’t know you, talk about your background.

My name is Gabriella Piccolo and I am 25. I am half English and half Italian. I studied Fashion Design and Development at London College of Fashion and lived in the vibrant East London for 5 years, I have recently moved back to my home town in the North of England.

When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

I have always been creative, in school I always enjoyed Art. When I was 12 my grandma bought me my first sewing machine so from then I used to make little clothes. This passion grew more in high school when I specialised in Art Textiles. I just knew it was what I loved and enjoyed the most, so continued to study it at college then onto University.

What's it like being in the Fashion industry?

I can't really answer that as I am so new to it but it is very tough and extremely hard work. I think it is one of the hardest if not the hardest industry to go into as it is so competitive and challenging.

What was your first job in the fashion industry?

During my time at University in London, I undertook many internships and jobs throughout my studies. My first internship was at Glass Magazine assisting the stylist and my first fashion job could have been helping out at the Clothes Show for various brands.

Talk about the changes in your life since you have your own brand.

Since having my own brand you pretty much give your whole time to it as it is your own business. Everything is down to you so changes would be lack of time outside of the business. Also juggling working from your job to support you, allowing you to have your own brand then having a business of your own to do. Two jobs are very hard work and difficult.

Describe what do you do in your work?

In my work, I do everything, from the initial stages of ideas and inspiration into sketches and designs, to making and adapting patterns, to sewing the garments. As well as this trying to promote online through social media, keeping it up to date as possible.

What do you like about your work?

I like the creativity aspect of my work, being able to design garments and make them- seeing the process to the end is very rewarding.

What advice would you pass along to those starting out in the Fashion Business?

My advice would be to do what you love and love what you do. To have a lot of industry contacts and funding behind you and support so people can help you. As without these- which I am learning myself is very difficult.

What inspires you?

Places, imagery, photography, galleries, people. I love exploring new places and taking pictures wherever I go as I always see something that inspires me. It is fuel for the brain.

What was the inspiration for your last collection?

The inspiration for my last collection was a diffusion line from my Graduate collection. Which was based on trailer trash and gypsy travelers combining the two?

Which materials did you use?

The materials I used in my graduate collection were a wide range of fabrics from holographic to reflective fabric and printed fabric, which I designed myself. I also used knitting and reflective yarn in this to give the collection a hidden quality when a flash is triggered. The diffusion range was a condensed version of this using the holographic and printed fabric and translating some of the details across in the fastenings- using holographic zips.
