WINCHESTER MARKET BY LOUIS MARIETTE

WINCHESTER MARKET BY LOUIS MARIETTE

The Spirit of Winchester Christmas Market

What a better way to start the festivities than aboard the gracious carriages of UK rail tours? A full table was laden with tantalizing breakfast service, steaming through the countryside to arrive at a  surprisingly balmy December winter wonderland market, complete with an ice skating rink and German-style wooden stalls.

The main feature of this artistic city is the grandeur of the famous Winchester cathedral. My companions, Penny, Sheila, and John, explored the endless array of items by talented local artisans; from handmade felt, animal-inspired slippers to a shop laden with childhood memories of every sweet on the planet imaginable in old fashioned jars, straining on the shelves.

Simplistic Christmas wreaths completed the polished look on antique doors and stalls, and even the famous Rick Stein fish restaurant had its own mussel inspired wreath.

Instead of chestnuts on hot coals, I stumbled upon a local couple who were surrounded by giant copper bowls and equipment. He was toasting marshmallow kebabs as she whirled in the background, spinning yarns of candy floss.

The star of this Christmas serenade is the grand 15th-century cathedral with its awe-inspiring architecture. The history is so rich behind this extraordinary building. It even has the Winchester bible, which is housed in the cathedral library. It is the largest and possibly the best-preserved of all surviving 12th century English bibles. As I walked in, I was captivated by a choir performance specially held for the occasion. Although not being allowed to record, it was an ethereal sound that wrapped around me and that I will treasure amongst the other, visual, delights.  To find out more about how you can support the extraordinary 20 million restorations and preservation campaign and what is involved visit: Winchester Cathedral

As we explored further, we were enchanted by the angelic sounds and talents of the Hampshire Youth Training Band.

To finalize my angelic visit peeking through children's Narnia hideaways was quite an unexpected quirky extreme mad visit to the hedonistic Jack Rabbits barber and shop. To start the experience they gently applied steamed towels to my scalp. The swift talents of Danny and his cut-throat razor glided eloquently removing my hair follicles. His muscle clad tattooed arm with mesmerizing oriental lotuses and serene Buddha were a welcoming sight during this tricky task.

All in all, what more could I ask to start the magic of Christmas?

“ I feel like this is the reason why I am here on this earth. To create. Music and my camera are my air! Allow me to inspire you…”

The project first came to life when I was sitting in the car with my Father. He was driving. These lyrics just landed in my head. I was so inspired! I wrote it all down. I looked at my Father and said, "I'm going to raise money for charity through Art & Rock'n'roll". And that is what I am doing.

STREET STYLE MIRNA SMOLJAN

STREET STYLE MIRNA SMOLJAN

Street Style Mirna Smoljan

Today we bring you guys the street style of Mirna, she is a Croatian girl, living in Vienna and currently studying Economics at the University of Vienna. Life and adventure lovers wishing to be a successful businesswoman and a mommy one day.

How would you describe your style?

I would say my style is mostly boho chic with a rocker chick edge. But some days I am also all in for some well-tailored classic look depending on my mood.

What is your must-have item?

My must-have piece would be a pair of mid- or high-rise jeans with skinny legs paired with a white shirt. That pair is so simple yet allows you to rock it on different occasions from ordinary day at university to a night at the bar with adding some accessories.

Where you buy normally your clothes?

I don't have my favorite shop but I do like online shopping more than just going to a shop. I mostly shop at Asos, River Island, and Top Shop. They have great pieces. I also like Zara this season because their new collection is mostly black and no matter what anyone says, black is the new black.

What is a NO-Go for you?

If you had asked me this question three years ago, I would have definitely told you UGG boots! But now I can't think about the item I would never wear. When it comes to fashion, I like to take interesting risks. It is all about the good pairing. What other people see as ugly, I can usually pair very well (And they ask me later where I bought that piece. It's the one you said it's ugly, don't you remember)

What’s your favorite thing in your closet right now?

I love my black biker leather jacket I am wearing in this post. Everyone needs a go-to leather jacket, it's timeless. It gives you a little edginess and goes perfectly with oversized jumpers and even long dresses.

You are most comfortable in?

As said before, skinny jeans, white shirt, leather jacket with some biker boots.

What are the best accessories a woman should have and why?

They say the best accessory a woman can wear is confidence. And I strongly agree. If you have a big enough personality, you can pull off some great fashion looks.

What is the perfect everyday shoes?

I am all about boots. Good biker boots make every outfit stand out plus they are really comfortable. I also love wearing beige suede boots with lace dresses during the summer.

What is your favorite bag?

Lately, I've been loving my fish form bag designed by Croatian designer Lucija Vrcic. It's petite and an element of my minimalist outfit.

What is the best shop to buy in Vienna?

Schokothek. Chocolate goes with everything 😉

BODY ARTIST LOST IN WONDER BY TRINA MERRY

BODY ARTIST LOST IN WONDER BY TRINA MERRY

Body Artist Lost in Wonder by Trina Merry

Trina Merry is an interesting artist from New York best known for her unique style that mixes body art with photography. At Lemontrend, we are a fan of her work, and in the past, we already show her art in 2 different articles the art meets photography and celestial human bodies.

Today we bring you guys her last work Lost in wonder. By Lost in wonder, Trina blurs the line of reality for both the viewer and the subject. Merry had her subject, UK model Kyle James, pose fully painted in front of Modern Wonders of the World. This “guerrilla-style” approach is common to much of her work.

For this series, Trina traveled to Modern Wonders of the World. Surrounded by historical places, Trina created amazing photographs. But before this, she first traveled together with her model to the place and take a historical tour, then she returns to the place, sit down and observe in detail the architecture, the energy, the people and the effects of tourism on the places.

“Many photographers say they ‘take’ a picture. Major tourist sites like these, there are masses of visual consumers ‘taking’ from this environment without really appreciating the space or the history and culture of the people who made these structures. Artists are culture makers so I couldn’t approach this trip the same way- we “made” a picture and gave energy back to these places.”

“I'm profoundly interested in the culture of the selfie. Why are people traveling to these sites for only a brief moment to take a picture and brag to their friends? It completely isolates the architectural structure from its original meaning, intent, and use. I am highly interested in our methods of memory-making and the ways these are digitalized globally.”

“I wanted to examine, what does it look like when we strip down our dreams and confront ourselves with the reality of these ‘wonders’ of the world.”

“I really wanted to understand what makes a place ‘great’. Why do these physical structures go down in history? I was amazed that due to the nature of contemporary tourism, so many people idealize these places, but they leave with some selfies, a branded trinket and a bit of disappointment. They looked... lost.”

VENEZUELAN MODEL BARBARA SANCHEZ

VENEZUELAN MODEL BARBARA SANCHEZ

Venezuelan Model Barbara Sanchez

Barbara Sanchez is a recognized model from Venezuela; she was born in El Tigre Anzoátegui, and since she was a little girl, she dreamed of becoming a model and the next Miss Venezuela, although it was not until she was 17, when together with her mother, they venture to move to the capital to search for an agency and makes her dream came true. Everything started with the casting to be the next Miss Venezuela but because she was underage, she was told to come again next year. Without losing her time, the same week she was already on the catwalks but not like a Miss but as model. This experience was repeated many times, so many times that she forgot about the Miss Venezuela. Over the years her mother remained her first goal, and 4 years later when she was modeling in an event where the present of Miss Venezuela also attended, he look at her and he invited her to participate in the Miss Venezuela.

From the night of her participation in the Miss Venezuela contest, she is remembered as an ex-Miss for Venezuelan.

After that experience she learned, that sometimes your dreams doesn’t necessarily have to happen at the moment to became like you want. She learned that for every situation there is a perfect moment, and this changes completely the way she looks at the things, and how to think and most important she learned to have patience.

The modeling career in another hand brought beautiful moments to her life also, like the opportunity to travel and meet people from other countries. Also her role as a model makes her felt more secure about herself, and gave her the courage to look different, escaping from the monotony, when each designer put on her their last creations.

Her hard work and her constancy help her to build her career and success when you combine your work and your passion you cannot fail.

Her first international catwalk was also her first catwalk and was for the international Columbian designer Olga Piedrahita. Her experience as a model in the international catwalks was the most gratifying experience because it makes her grow faster.

Today she has a radio program, and on the weekend she has her own play in the theaters of Caracas, which means she works from Monday to Monday, and more importantly she is also the mother of a beautiful girl.

I remember when I used to work at L’altro Uomo, we used to work a lot with Barbara, I used to call her for the castings we had at the agency, and even International Designers came to the agency just to see her walk.

But for me, of course, is a pleasure to present to you her last work…
