When did you know, you wanted to be a makeup artist?

I already knew that I wanted to work as a makeup artist during my school days. But, then I decided to work as a dental technician, had two wonderful children and I was working as a fitness trainer.

After some years, I realized my dream was the makeup world, and I make my dream true in 2008 when I started my makeup training and worked as a freelancer straight away. After all, these years I can say that was the best decision.

Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your career?

People and international artists like Alex Box, Val Garland or Pat Mc Grath inspired me the most, but most importantly, it's nature and art that inspires me. Colors, different shapes, and textures are simply great sources of inspiration.

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?

I have been a Make-up Artist for 11 years now. After the Makeup school, I did many masterclasses with international Make-up and Hair- Artists, like Yasmin Heinz, Loni Baur, Tracy Cant, Philippe Mensah, Sabrina Michals, and Wendy Iles. That changed my work.

How would you describe your signature look and what is it about the style that sets you except for other makeup artists?

Less is more, describes my signature the most. I am absolutely addicted to skin and skincare. So there is nothing more beautiful than perfect pure skin. I only use makeup as much as necessary. This makes a face always looks natural, healthy, and fresh.

What’s your favorite makeup product?

My favorite makeup product is blush. It gives life back to the face and a fresh and beautiful healthy look.

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty means charisma to me. A beautiful laugh, sparkle in the eyes, naturalness, that's what looks perfect on every woman.

Which are the colors for this season?

The color for this season is coral. Eyeshadow can be natural or more colorful like blue and green and rose for the cheeks.

Which are the must make-ups every woman should have in the makeup bag

Concealer, powder, blush, mascara and a red lipstick

Consequently, it is necessary to organize the social media content post, and the best way to do it is through a Content Calendar.

It is also necessary to keep the important celebration dates, and with a content calendar, it will be easy to plan ahead all these social media holidays content.

The idea is to engage with your followers, especially on important dates, and take every opportunity to elevate your message.

Content Creation Tips and Tricks

Be consistent

The best way to increase your Instagram followers is by posting constantly. The point here is to deliver content to your followers and engage them through your content. Therefore your content has to be up to date. Consistent posting will let your followers know what they can expect on which day of the week, like this you will be able to cultivate a long-lasting relationship with your followers.

The social media Content Calendar will help you to achieve this consistency around your social media channels, by planning and schedule your content ahead.

Define your content Mix

For you to be able to engage with your followers/customers, you have to mix things up! How can you mix things up? Well By adding editorial and curate articles, photos, videos and news about your company. Also, it is important to mention that the interaction between your followers is very important.

How can you mix your content? The 80/20 rule is a good way to start. The best way to divide your content would be 80% of interesting content, and 20% of content about your products and special sales.

Therefore, by planning your content ahead, you will have a better way to balance your content.

Define your content across your social media platforms

All social media platforms are different, consequently, you cannot share the same exact post on multiple networks. You have to adapt your content for each individual network. A Social Media content calendar gives you the opportunity to write and adapt your content to each individual channel.

Do not repeat your content

Another way to keep up with fresh content is by looking back on your content calendar while planning the new content to avoid repeating yourself.

Determinate your regularity

As I said before, the best way to engage with your followers/customers is by being consistent, and that means not just by the message, but also by how often you publish content. Define the days and the time when you want to post and keep your customers up to date.

By setting up categories of your content, you can determine which content gets the most engagement, like this you will be able to track what sort of content your followers want.

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER CLAUDIA CORTEZ

FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER CLAUDIA CORTEZ

Fashion Photographer Claudia Cortez

Claudia Cortez is a Venezuelan fashion photographer. She is eighteen-year-old, living in the city of Miami, for a little over a year now. Throughout her life journey, she has had the opportunity to continue developing her career as a photographer, which not only fascinates her but also represents her lifestyle. She defines herself as a creative, persevering and visionary woman. She is an independent photographer with a fascination for architecture. She defines her style in photography as fashion-forward, but also she like editorial and gastronomy photography.

When did you know you wanted to be a photographer?

Two years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the “Museum of The Great War” where I had the opportunity of photographing its fascinating details (which are some of the first pictures in my Instagram profile). Later that day, I showed my mother the photos I had taken with my cell phone (which was a Samsung S5 at the time). She asked if I had ever thought of entering the world of photography, she thought I had an eye for photography and a possible future. I already had some time thinking about the idea, and I enjoyed looking at the work of my favorite photographers, but I had never considered taking this step, so my mother did not hesitate to buy my first DSLR camera. I began to photograph sunsets, animals, and eventually lead me to photograph people as well, and that was how I knew I wanted to be a fashion photographer.

What is most important at the moment you take a picture?

I think one of the most important aspects is the bond you create with your model. It does not matter if you have the best makeup artist, the best stylist, or the best location, if there is no bond, you’ll never achieve the best results possible. In addition, I think that there should be empathy between the team so that you will always get the best result after each "click".

From where you get your inspiration

Fashion inspires me; the modern infrastructures for designs and the attitude of the model when she gets into the character of what she is wearing.

How do you look for the perfect spots?

Everything depends on the theme of the photoshoot. If it is a clothing brand, I would choose a scenery that conveys the same feeling like the brand; if it is a make-up product, I would choose a well-lit study with white or pink backgrounds, and in the case of gastronomy I prefer to use the same establishment to capture its essence since they are usually decorated with the theme of their roots.

Describe a typical shoot.

If it's the first time I work with the model I like to talk a little before the date to create more confidence at the time of the photoshoot. If this is not the case, once we arrive at the place that we chose, we started doing the makeup, hairstyle and organizing the outfits.

Were you educate in photography, or are self-taught?

I'm self-taught.

What camera do you use most of the time?

My Nikon D3300 and 35mm lens.

Which photo are you currently most proud of?

It was hard! But this is one of my 40 favorite photos.

Comparing where you are now with where you are when you first started, what could you have done differently to get to where you are sooner?

Nothing. I arrived in this country just over 1 year ago which means that I had to start my career from scratch. However, I think the timing has been perfect. I do not complain or regret my decisions. Choosing to come to Miami was one of the best things I could have done for my career.

Favorite photography book?

I do not have a favorite book, as I said before, I never took classes but it is worth noting that I have learned so much by reading certain blogs on the internet. Of course, I do not rule out the possibility of reading a few photography books.

With whom you would like to work the most?

I would love to work for Kylie Cosmetics, Vogue Magazine, and Shay Mitchell.

FASHION STYLIST ALINA HOLZ

FASHION STYLIST ALINA HOLZ

Fashion Stylist Alina Holz

Alina Holz is a freelance fashion stylist born and raised in Hamburg, she is also based in Hamburg and is represented by the agency Kult artists. She studied fashion design in Hamburg at the HAW and finished her studies with the diploma in 2010. She started styling very classic with fashion. But during this year she also started adding still and interior styling more and more within her portfolio as she discovered a big passion for this sector and the very special and different kind of work.

How did you become a fashion stylist?

During my studies, I did an internship with an agency in the field of styling, as I was at the end of my studies and I needed to figure out, what to do whit what I’ve learned at university.

It was a great experience, as they gave me the opportunity right after a few months to travel to Miami with them for production (I had never been to the USA before).

After finishing the internship I continued working for them as freelance styling assistance, which was a great way to earn my own money even if I was still a student and by the way in a field that I liked a lot. So I got to know photographers, hair and makeup artists, etc and so I became an assistant.

What advice would you give an upcoming fashion stylist?

Try to assist as much as you can, try to find your „handwriting“ through working with a lot of different people, you can learn so much by just watching an experienced stylist doing their work.

I've worked with a few stylists, with some of them for a long time, they all have different workflows and their own way to combine patterns, textiles, styles, etc.

No matter at what point of your career you are, you should always take the time to work on free projects, as its such a great way to sharpen and create your own handwriting and also to grow, caus its a never-ending process, it's always moving.

And try to network as much as you can, there are so many of us out there… I’ve underestimated this fact for a long time.

What has been the most memorable moment of your career, so far?

To me there is not this one moment that sticks out, every time you work with a great team for a longer time, especially when you travel together you grow together like a family that's always very special.

When I finally get to see the finished work you’ve been working on so hard, it just makes you very proud.

And I’ve met a handful very special people over the years, that inspired me or took me to the next level

What challenges do you have as a stylist?

It's a very physical job, you have to be very good at running (mostly against time) and lugging all that stuff from A to B and back.

Sometimes a very specific wish comes in very last minute (like the day before the shoot), so you should have a handful of names you can call or places you can go to if you are looking for this one specific, rare piece.

And Time is mostly against you and often you have quite a lot of stuff going on at the same time and everything has to be under control.

What goals do you wish to achieve in the future?

I would love to see that the conscious and fair fashion movement is taking more and moreover the fast fashion industry and be a  part of it with my work.

There is so much going on at the moment, incredible nice brands with beautiful, wearable cloth coming up more and more. Not what some of us still have in mind, when they think of conscious, slow and fair fashion.

For my work and my careerism aiming to get to work a lot more as a still and interior stylist.

How do you choose what looks work for each individual client?

Usually, I get a briefing from the client and there mostly is an Art Director, I can talk to.

I try to listen very carefully to what’s been said in the briefing, often after there was a briefing meeting, I take some time to go through it all by myself, make notes, write down questions that are coming up.

Mostly it's not a specific pair of pants or shirt, its rather a feeling or a vibe that needs to be transported through the styling, I  think, I have a good feeling to catch up on that and start creating a picture or a whole world in my head.

Do the clothing choices you make at work inspire your personal style?

I think so, but I think that’s rather for editorials or free productions than for commercial work. But I think its often rather a vibe or a mood that I like about a collection or certain pieces of it, or even the presentation of the designer. So I think, I sometimes adapt things and make them work in my wardrobe and in my way.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is very casual, I love sneakers, jeans and plane simple t-Shirts. I never ever wear high heels. I love colors and patterns, but for me personally, it doesn’t have to go too wild 😉 it has to be practical, in summer I love hopping into my jeans shorts, add a t-Shirt and my Birkenstock or just jumping into a flattering summer dress-done!

What is your favorite item in your closet?

At the moment I love my Levis Jeans, I am wearing it up and down and it's getting better and better. And my black boots, they just work with everything-jeans, a skirt, dress and they are super comfy.

Last year I bought myself a (for my opinion) a very expensive summer dress, which I had an eye on for a very long time. It's by a German fair fashion brand in Berlin, its name is folk days, I am so looking forward to wearing it again.

What trends are you loving right now?

As I said, I love the fair and slow fashion trend that is going on at the moment, I love purity, details, and textures. I like to put together patterns and colors, that you would never put together.

To be honest, I don’t follow trends (at least not intentional) I follow my instincts and adapt things that I like and put them together so it becomes my personal way.

What’s the best style advice you’ve received?

I think its good to have these very few favorite pieces in your closet, of high quality and you will see that there’s not so much more you need. Like a good pair of jeans or shoes.

If you have that, you can find endless combinations. I don’t buy a lot of new clothes for myself, as I’ve heard once that if you buy cheap stuff, you buy double and its true. So I rather stick to quality than quantity, you would be surprised about my tiny closet 😉

Who is your favorite designer? Why?

I liked the recent collections of Marina Hoermanseder, Dawid Tomaszewski and Tim Labenda
