Makeup Artist Valeria Meier

Valeria Meier is a makeup artist originally from Brazil; in 2003 she moves to Switzerland and continues her career as a makeup artist. Valeria has more than 20 years of experience as an international makeup artist and had the opportunity to work with international people in the fashion world. In 2015 she launched her eyelashes collection, which is made of 100% of human hair that meets the highest demands of quality.

Valeria Meier Eyelashes stands for elegance, naturalness, quality, creative and fairness. She has fourteen different models of eyelashes, and they are not just beautiful, but truly amazing because you can reuse them at least ten times.

When did you know, you wanted to be a makeup artist?

I never knew. That's just happened. I was always a very creative person and was in every creative event in the school time as an organizer.

I studied 2 years of art as the second title in the time I learned chemistry annalist, although my colleagues said chemistry was not the right profession for me. All began in the Year 1996 when I was modeling for a model agency in Salvador da Bahia. After I opened a model school and began to make makeup and styling for video and advertising productions. I discovered my passion inside this world and with the years I developed myself as a well-known makeup artist in my town. When I came to Switzerland, I had a big experience in my profession as a makeup artist and event manager and booker. So I started in Switzerland in the Year 2006 again and since this time all the things just happened... I love my profession, and I could make five passions together: chemistry, art, communication, business, and teaching.

Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your career?

Definitely Duda Molinos, a Brazilian Makeup Artist. In 1998, when I started, all the things were very analogical in Brazil, Duda was very modern and analytical for that time. He inspired me. I love his patient, too. He is a great human being.

One time I met him on the backstage in Salvador for a fashion week, and I was so happy to see his work so close. After Yasmin Heinz, Ellis Faas and Pat Mc Greath are my inspirations. I also love the work from Isamaya French and Lan Grealis.

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?

Since 20 years. I started as a model in a model agency, and later I worked for then as a booker. However, I had a Makeup school and began with makeup for the sed cards from my students. Inside the agency, I had the possibility to work with photographers for advertising and fashion shootings. I began with small Shootings for a telephone provider and before I came to Switzerland I had may last Shooting in Brazil for the government from Angola.

How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?

A perfectly blended Skin. I work on the skin very systematic to get an extreme flawless skin. I can make the airbrush effect with my own hands to get the “photoshop” effect only with light and makeup.

What’s your favorite makeup product?

Oh my gooodddd. So many… Here are a few: face & Body from mac, YSL Dessin du Regard waterproof crayon, Dior show waterproof mascara, Dior forever foundation, artistry eyebrow pencil, kryolan ultra-foundation, Bobbi brown brush cleaner, the old pearl pigments from nyx, dermalogica skincare products, duo lash glue and my Valeria Meier eyelashes

What does beauty mean to you?

A perfect balance. Between beauty and not beauty, perfection, and imperfection, lights and darkness, good and bad, nothing and all... the balance is the new perfection for me.

Which are the colors for this season?

For the spring: pastel and neon colors such matt colors...

For the summer: the liquid bronzing highlighters will be the big joker this season for me...

Which are the must make-ups every woman should have in the makeup bag?

Lipstick and powder.

Tell us about your eyelashes line

Eyelashes were my passion. I always applied lashes on the models for my work. Eight years ago I made my own collection; I had a collection with over 200 different lashes...

After a long time thinking about it and a long research with so many different fabrics, I founded the right fabric for me and I developed my first line “Natural Elegance.”

They are 100% human hair and very natural and light to wear. I love animals, and I never will produce animal lashes.

What is most important for a woman at the moment she put the eyelashes?

To be herself. So many people would like to try lashes but are afraid to make mistakes. For the people in Switzerland, lashes are relative to a new product (although we have lashes since the 20’).

But that will be more popular. So... The woman has to think about. That's just a product like mascara... but a little bit better, because lashes make the best work with the eyes. Just choose a good quality. Inform well about the glue and allergy for latex (there is latex-free glue too), just wait for the glue begins to dry (about 30 seconds) set the lashes so near to your own lashes. This is like to learn to make the eyeliner. You have to make it more times... than it will be perfect. But applying lashes is not that difficult like apply eyeliner; for example

How long a person can let the eyelashes?

For the whole day. After you can clean them and put back on the package to reuse. I love fresh lashes, but mine you can use them at least ten times again.

You have seven different eyelashes model, which is one is the most beloved one?

I have on the time, fourteen different models. My most loved are: #17 and #18

Norwegian Fashion Designer Ingrid Pettersson

Ingrid Pettersson is a Norwegian Fashion designer. She graduates from the Oslo National Academy 2 years ago, and today we will show you her recent work. She created different realities through texts and illustrations. Her last collection is an interesting mix of shapes, textures, and colors, which reflect the innovation of her aesthetics. She studies how clothing can convey mood, lifestyle, and emotions. By playing with historical and new references, they're taking out of context and recoded in fictional an alternative reality.

For those who don’t know you, tell us about your background

I am a 25-year-old Norwegian fashion designer based in Oslo. In 2015 I graduated from Oslo National Academy of the Arts with a bachelor in fashion design. The recent years my projects have been based on creating clothes influenced by a fictional muse - characters that shape the projects in various ways. I basically want to be a storyteller, not by using words, but by using fabrics, colors, shapes, and tactility.

When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

Five years ago. I have always been interested in drawing and making things, but my interest in fashion design developed quickly after high school.

What’s it like being in the Fashion industry?

I don't have very much experience. I am new in the game, and still, have two jobs on the side of my designing to earn a living. But so far it’s been exciting and a bit intense.

How is the fashion industry in Oslo?

Oslo has never been a vibrant fashion city, but the recent years it has developed a great deal. I think we are in an interesting face. A lot of great brands and designers are popping up around. And I feel as if we are breaking out of the Whole wool-thing and taking a step into a more intriguing and fresh new fashion scene. It’s really exciting to witness and to be a part of.

How do you choose your inspiration?

I usually start my process imagining the woman I want to wear my clothes. I build a world around her and add layers of different references such as a period of time, a song, a photo, or a book. I take things out of context and recode them into my own alternative reality. But, I can also get inspired by fabrics and movement.

Tell us about your last Collection

"Distinction" is a Collection based on a fictional muse spun out from own texts and illustrations. Each outfit is a psychological portrait of the muses different layers of disposition. In the progress, I also looked into other references, as haute couture in the '50s, and European hip hop in the '80s and the '90s. The collection is a discourse among the muse, haute couture, and euro hip hop style.

In one word: how would you define yourself as a designer?

Remixer

What advice would you pass along to those starting in the Fashion Business?

Patience and a big portion of go-ahead spirit.

American Model Eric Claussen

Eric Claussen is a fashion model from New York. Eric is now a successful model who turns his life around 5 years ago; by posting photos of his transformation in Facebook and Instagram and a photographer contact him to make a photo shooting with him, the pictures were a success and his career started. Although his life was not easy, today Eric has made a career in the world of fashion, and he has been on the covers of International Magazines inspiring many with his amazing story.

Where were you born and what was your pre-model life like?

I was born in Huntington, New York. Pre-model I was a functioning alcoholic/drug addict.

How have you been discovered?

I was discovered on Facebook and Instagram. After posting my transformation photos from my big turnaround I sparked a lot of interest. I switched my negative addictions of drinking and doing drugs with positive addictions of working out and personal development. I lost 50 pounds and got in the best shape of my life. I haven't looked back.

When did you decide to become a model?

When I was younger I wanted to model because my mother modelled, but I got caught up in the party life, and drinking became my everyday life.

What has been one of your favorite career experiences so far?

Helping others. So many people look up to me and ask for help. It brings me so much joy to be of guidance to people and help them improve the quality of their lives.

Did you have an interest in modeling or fashion before starting as a model?

Yes, I took a liking to model as a youngster after looking at my mothers modeling photos.

What advice would you pass along to those starting out in the business?

You have to want it. It's tough. You go through long periods with no pay. And then, boom you get booked. You absolutely must be patient, persistent and positive no matter what.

You have become successful for many reasons what do you think the top few are?

I realized I was successful when I was completely broke, hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and living in my sister’s basement because of the vision I had for my life to be. I never stopped working on myself knowing in my heart of hearts that I would make it.

What is the ultimate goal of your career?

Giving back. I'm going to start The Claussen Foundation and help others who suffer from drug and alcohol addictions as well as mental illness such as bipolar disorder which I was diagnosed with.

Serena Goldenbaum Interview

Serena Goldenbaum is a German makeup artist and star visagist; I had the opportunity to meet her on the LOV Cosmetics event on the 28 of March in Vienna. LOV Cosmetic organizes a beautiful event for Austrian bloggers, to present their latest products. To be honest, I have never tried before LOV Cosmetics, and let me tell you, now they are part of makeup routine now. Although was the event to get to know the brand better, having the opportunity to meet Serena and talk to her about beauty was fascinating. Serena worked with top models and stars like Sylvie Mais, Bar Rafaeli, and Helena Fischer, and had built a strong career as an international Makeup artist, in addition, she also has her own Beauty academy in Hamburg, where you can take different courses. Moreover, she has a beauty book: Beauty secrets – Beauty inside you. I was captivated about Serena's career, and I wanted to know how her journey started.

When did you know, you wanted to be a makeup artist?

My Father owns a Transvestite Cabaret and as a little girl I grew up with men dressing as women, doing their Make-up and performing on stage. This Beauty Transformation and what you can do with Make-up, Styling, and Hair fascinated me, that I wanted to become a hairdresser and then a Makeup artist. Since I am 10 Years old and dancing Ballet, I knew that I want to help people to look their best and boost their self-esteem through hair, makeup, and styling.

Who has inspired you throughout your career?

I worked with almost all Topmodels, like Claudia Schiffer, Heidi Klum, Giselle Bündchen, Naomi Campbell, etc. and many Stars.

To see that even a professional Model is not perfect, but knows how to show herself in the best light, work her features and transform herself with some Beauty-, Posing and Styling Tips inspires me to this day. I want to show everyone, that Beauty is not about being or looking perfect. It is about your Charisma and knowing how to reflect your inner beauty to the outside.

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?

I started to be a hairdresser when I was 15. With 20 I trained to be a makeup artist in London since then, I am working for Photoshootings; TV Shows all over the world.

I started by just doing it, seeing clients and showing my work and asking for Jobs. Then people started recommending me and everything went it's way.

How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?

I love a woman to look fresh, healthy, and happy, so I like to create that healthy skin glow. Even if I am doing a very strong makeup Look, the skin has to glow and look fresh.
