INTERNATIONAL MODEL SKAISTE GARNEVICIUTE

International Model Skaiste Garneviciute

Skaiste is an international model that was born in Lithuania; she has traveled the world and built a strong career as an International Model. She was always a creative woman, with an interest in science, art, and human behavior. We had the opportunity to talk to her to know, how her career as a model started and discover more about her.

Where were you born and what was your pre-model life like?

I do not associate myself with the place I was born. I just don’t believe in borders between the countries. However, I was born in a small village in Lithuania. But, I do not live there for a long time so I'm doing modeling in different parts of the world. And...My life was always colorful before modeling and during my career. Normally before I use to be interested in many different things like science, art, neuroscience, philosophy, nature, human behavior, psychology, nutrition, and so on, and now I'm developing these things more.

How have you been discovered?

People who were in my environment at that stage of my life offered me to send some pictures to the modeling agencies. So I did it.

When did you decide to become a model?

I decided when I felt it was the right time.

What has been one of your favorite career experiences so far?

The favorite experience? For me, there is no favorite, best, or worse experiences. What I simply consider the greatest moments were when the genuine creativity was expressed, as well as honest and humanistic effort was put into the work. The most memorable experiences were those when all the team was working together united when each feels comfortable and able to confide in each other, which leads to fruitful teamwork and spirit. And the results always are honest.

Did you have an interest in modeling for fashion before starting as a model?

Before starting as a model I was always interested in creative work and results. For example, artistic pictures that had been taken during the photoshoot. Honest creativity and arts just amaze me always.

What advice would you pass along to those starting in the business?

I do not like giving simple advises or just to say something for saying. The only thing I would offer in this case – is to be yourself, be strong and always developing.

You have become successful for many reasons. What do you think the top few are?

First of all, we have to reconsider what does it mean to be successful. In my opinion and following logical reservations, humanity/world does not need successful people because of most of the time that success it too materialistic. Moreover, as most of us would agree that materialism leads to the destruction of our home, nature, and our human race. The most important is developing yourself and our human qualities, reeducate yourself continually, never stop learning. We should not allow our egos to overcome us.

I think it is important to develop sensitivity and empathy at the needed moments. This is one of the most important things in life.

Which is the ultimate goal of your career?

There can be many goals, or there can be just one goal. It changes throughout the time but most importantly is that those goals should be noble and brought positive advantages not only for yourself but as well as for others. If you don’t mind, I will keep those goals to myself for the moment.

So far his editorials were featured in magazines from Europe, USA, Canada and Asia, like Eluxe Magazine, Elegant Magazine, Trend Prive Magazine, Hacid Magazine, HUF Magazine, One Coast Magazine, Rude Magazine, Nord Magazine, Ellements Magazine, Jute Magazine, Remark Magazine, City Life, Zodiac Magazine.

For those who don't know you, tell us about yourself

I am Bogdan Teodorov. I started taking pictures in 2006 as a passion. From the very beginning, I had worked with professional models, as I also have been in charge of a modeling agency in Romania and I was shooting for their books. In 2013 I made my own studio and started to work with clients. I do fashion campaigns, lookbooks, beauty and editorial.

Were you educate in photography, or are yourself taught?

I am a self-taught photographer. But in 2015 I attended Photography & Fashion Course in Milano at Istituto Italiano di Fotografia. New experiences are giving you new perspectives.

What camera do you use most of the time?

Most of my time I use Canon 5DS which is a great camera.

Which photo are you currently most proud of?

My favorite one I did recently is the image from the cover of One Coast Magazine. I say this because my theme Nomad was greatly staged by my team Camelia Tugearu, Corina Tudor, Andra Teodorov, and Serap Ismail. Also, the wardrobe fitted very well. It was shot in a rocky place with natural light to have a better feeling.

Comparing where you are now with where you are when you first started, what could you has done differently to get to where you are sooner?

I would start earlier, like on 17th to have more time to develop. Maybe I could have been found in other markets. It is important to have the energy to grow, and a younger age makes you adapt faster.

You’ve clearly worked with a wide range of models, what tips can you recommend to people looking to expand their portfolio?

First, you have to understand what you want to do, create a mood board and sent it to a modeling agency. They will give you choices with their new faces that need pictures. Try to choose the best one for your idea even is maybe less experienced. Fresh models have a great desire to grow just like you.

Describe a typical shoot.

I typically shoot starts with the idea even it is a client, an editorial or a test. With the idea, I start to make a mood board so everybody from my team understands what we have to do. If you have a fashion stylist, you will have a good wardrobe if not you have to search for them to match the mood board. You choose the model for it. With all these, I create my setup and I wait for the hair and makeup to be done. Then is just about creativity and experience. If you know what you have to do it is easy and takes less time for everybody.

Favorite accessory?

I team up with my wife. I have more time to shoot, and she retouches most of them. It is good that we both like what we are doing. It is hardly alone mostly when you have liked 7 consecutive days of photoshoots. You do not have time to retouch a lot. In those situations, we work full power J. We both have Wacom’s but we got back to the mouse.

Who would you like to work with most?

I love to work with all my team. We do it together for some time, and we know exactly what we have to do.

Favorite photography book?

I am a visual person I do not read books about it.

SWEDISH PHOTOGRAPHER KIM BLOMQVIST

SWEDISH PHOTOGRAPHER KIM BLOMQVIST

Swedish Photographer Kim Blomqvist

Kim Blomqvist is a Swedish photographer; she was born and raised in a little fishing village on the southeast coast of Sweden. She grew up with her grandmother and grandfather who had a house right by the ocean. When she was 8 years old she sat on the beach one summer's eve and looked out over the water. She turned to her grandmother and said that one day she would go across to that big country in the west. 11 years later she sold my apartment for 8000 Swedish crowns and bought a ticket for 7500 skr and left. She stayed away 14 years, enjoying the warmth, the hospitality the multicultural, the multilingual, the place that came to shape her; Miami. She is a restless soul but she tries to put it to good use and let it be her driving force. She was once asked if she considered having reached her goals; her answers were no and I never will because as soon as I reach one I set up another - that to me is living!

Were you educate in photography, or are you self taught?

Aside from reading a few photography books, no I am not educated in photography. Instead, I have studied pictures, watched tons of programs involving photography and from that developed a clear sense of what I want to create when behind and in front of the camera, what I feel I can bring to the field and above all; finding the feeling; the soul of every picture I take.

What camera do you use most of the time?

I am inseparable from my Canon 5d Mark III

Which photo are you currently most proud of?

To this, I have no answer. It would be like asking a mother to point out which one of her children is her favorite; to which there should not be an answer. I believe as a photographer you have to take pride and feel for all the photos you create even if some are there to show you how much you have grown and come to develop.

Comparing where you are now with where you are when you first started, what could you have done differently to get to where you are sooner?

I should have started much sooner!!

You’ve clearly worked with a wide range of models, what tips can you recommend to people looking to expand their portfolio?

BRING IT! The models that deliver are the ones that have taken great care to study the product, the mood, etc before the shoot. They come into it having an idea of what they can and want to bring to it. They have their own ideas and are not afraid to test them or suggest them. I am the same way when I am in front of the camera and it allows for the model and the photographer to connect and get carried away in the creative process where it is a joint venture.

Describe a typical shoot.

Ohh... I don't think there is such a thing as a typical shoot for me. I try to walk into every shoot with a clean slate so that I bring my very best each time. Aside from getting my gear in order and researching in preparation (location, product, props, etc), there is one thing that I am very careful to do at every shoot; connect! If I shoot people I connect with them, if I shoot products I connect with them and their creators, if I shoot a location I connect with it. I am often told that I am able to capture the essence of whatever it is that is in front of my camera and I attribute it all to this connection. And if I shoot people it makes them feel comfortable and they can let go.

How much time do you spend taking photos, versus retouching photos? Favorite accessory?

I would say 1/3 of it is taking the photos and 2/3 is the after treatment. It does not only have to do with retouching, but you also have to decide what you want to do with your raw file and then bring that out being very careful not to lose its natural allure in the process. Favorite accessories; I would have to say glasses/sunglasses, watches, and hats! Love rings as well!

Who would you like to work with most?

Hmm.. tough question... Someone I have always wanted to photograph is Viggo Mortensen. And no, not for the obvious reasons haha.. but I think there is a side to him that has yet been captured but then again there are a lot of people I would love to work with!

Favorite photography book?

I have yet to discover...  Working on one of my own at the moment maybe something will come of it.

CURVY MODEL ELISA D’OSPINA STORY

CURVY MODEL ELISA D’OSPINA STORY

My Curvy Battle

Elisa D'Ospina is an Italian curvy model, and is one of the most inspiring persons I have ever met. She is a plus size model and 2 years ago, we had the opportunity to make her an Interview about how her career started. Today she tell us more about the person who open the way for Curvy models, and how important is to love ourselves.

Elisa D'Ospina

My victory is that it has helped to widen the market by giving the opportunity to curvy sizes and oversize to feel free to walk into a store and find the leaders. I also had another luck; in my working life I met in my path so many women who have understood what was my battle. One of these, was Franca Sozzani who in 2010 opened on Vogue.it the curvy section that gave way to this world to have a reference of all prestige.

I only regret that although there were good prospects, Italy has always remained a step back from America. In the US, there is another mentality, and the market dares more. Here today, there are collections that need to be younger, need someone to press on the accelerator for creating glamour collections.

Personally, I have always tried to combine fashionable a deeper message: love yourself. It's an idea that exceeds the size we wear. No matter whether you have a 6 or 22, if you start to love, you can achieve any type of goal. Love is all good life, but if we do not take care of us no one can do it.

When you love, the world responds to you differently. Look at the world differently. And make therapy to be at peace. How to have a dancer dancing on a wire and watch for hours. So do you feel when you have the knowledge that you’re being is different and often better than yours aesthetic.

We are a company that has staked everything on the aesthetics and always grow less being.

In my future, I will continue to talk to women and to convince them than they are unique. Thanks to the Italian TV I have a space that is aired every week on one of the main channels and this allows me to reach a wider audience. The best thing is to listen to the thousands of stories that I received in these years.

Each of us is unique, never forget it.

GERMAN PHOTOGRAPHER VERONIKA GOLL

GERMAN PHOTOGRAPHER VERONIKA GOLL

German Photographer Veronika Goll

Veronika Goll is a German photographer who lives in a small village (about 100 km from Berlin in Germany). Actually, she is an interior architect and she likes seeing nice things, pleasant proportions, and great colors. In May 2016 she bought herself, out of a belly feeling, a camera and has started to discover the world with her. She falls so deeply in love with all the magic she found in the photography world, and she is glad to capture all these special moments.

Quite quickly she started to put fashion and models in the scene.

It is an unbelievable feeling to see the results. I can implement so many creative ideas. I would never have expected. Meanwhile, photography takes so much of my life and fulfills me completely. Many tell me that they love my pictures because they are full of emotions. I’m really happy, that people see more in my pictures, than just pretty girls

Were you educate in photography, or are you taught?

I haven't taken any photography courses. My brother and his friends have many experiences with mirror reflection cameras. In the beginning, they showed me how to use it in manual mode and how to keep the focus =) after that I just took my camera where ever I went and just kept practicing wherever and whenever I could. Because of my job as an interior architect, I have some experience in the field of image processing, which helped me a lot.

What camera do you use most of the time?

I now got myself a light intensive camera (Canon EOS 6d) and am just as light intensive objective (Canon 50 mm 1.8) For the moment this is all I need.

Which photo are you currently most proud of?

In retrospect, I can say that I had a shooting, with which I was very surprised by the result. An unknown model and I went to a "lost place" without really having a plan ... The sky was deep blue and there were hundreds of corners to discover. We found a sofa surrounded by ivy.

She, with her natural but beautiful radiance on this grown-up sofa... I believe this is one of my favorite pictures because it has this unique atmosphere. Somehow, like a modern fairy tale

Comparing where you are now with where you are when you first started, what could you have done differently to get to where you are sooner?

I started only 8 months ago with photography. I'm just surprised by myself, how the whole thing could develop so quickly. I would not do anything differently. I just let myself drift and this was the best choice. I think if I had looked too much to the right and left to orient myself to other photographers, it would have been a failure. I show my unrestricted and unaffected perception of beauty. I know that not all people like my way to photograph, and this is okay for me. I do not want to be influenced by the outside only to please the broad mass

You’ve clearly worked with a wide range of models, what tips can you recommend to people looking to expand their portfolio?

Well, until now, I have only worked with nonprofessional models. This is totally fine with me. Sometimes I get the feeling it’s easier to work with “girls” that do not have any or only less experience, than with some that have loads. Maybe this is because they are more open-minded. I don’t know, as I had not had a shooting with a professional model. For me, all my models have acted “professional” and were more than great J Most of my models I find on Facebook. Mainly in groups, those are, especially for models and photographers. Every now and then, when I see a gorgeous girl in town, I will just tip on her shoulder and ask her whether she would be interested to be in front of my camera.

Describe a typical shoot.

The most important is to create a feeling of well-being. First, the model and I are having first a cup of coffee, we talk and laugh. While we are more like old friends, I start photographing her/him. Only through my camera, I find the right perspective and I start to discover all the colorful facets of the model. After about 30-60 minutes we start something more targeted. We try outfits and different motifs, without any pressure. It has to be FUN. While we shoot, I showed the model always already the results on the camera... Mostly at this time the last ice melts and the model feels comfortable in front of the camera 🙂 At the moment a shooting takes me about 4 hours because I just cannot find an end... I must definitely get in the grip

How much time do you spend taking photos, versus retouching photos?

I currently have about 1-2 shootings a week. This makes in about 4-8 hour time for shooting plus 10-20 hours for the retouch. I like to edit many pictures. That costs time. But, a time I like to sacrifice. I use the evenings when the children are in bed. It is a welcome change from watching tv

Favorite accessory?

We have an old, bright blue caravan in our garden. I love him. He is a great accessory. Inside, you have an incredibly warm and soft light. Photos, taken inside just have a great look.

And I really like hair bands (I’m not sure if this is the right word).

Who would you like to work with most?

There is no one special at the moment. I like women with this kind of vintage look (70's). Women with soft facial features and wavy hair.

Favorite photography book?

To be honest, I haven’t looked in a single book about photography yet. I maybe will put one on my birthday wish list.
